Product Description

Venturing out alone for a short boat ride on the Louisiana bayou hadn’t seemed like such a bad idea, not when it meant escaping the pressure her parents were putting on her to marry a man she didn’t love. But that was before the storm blew in, and the motor went out, and the boat took on so much water she’d been forced to row to land where hungry alligators milled around, hoping for a midnight snack. Rescued from certain death by the mysterious Quinten Hawke seemed like a Godsend…until he informed Aiden she would have to spend the night in his bed.

Quinten had spent the last two years trying to bury his past and he wasn't about to have it drudged up again, especially not by a smart mouthed, mule-headed woman who didn't have the sense to turn around and go back where she came from as soon as the storm threatened. Still, it was his house and his bed, so she could either sleep with him or take her chances outside with the alligators!

I love this author's work. In fact, I've yet to read a story of her's that isn't an automatic 5 stars. If you're like me, a fan of the romance genre, I can safely say that there aren't many writers that top Kimberley Reeves.

In this story she showcases her smooth storytelling abilities alongside her apparently in-built talent for creating characters that her readers can connect with.

In Aiden's Bayou you have a stellar cast of characters that are perfect company to share a coffee and an afternoon on the sofa with... Aiden, an innocent'ish' young woman who has decided she's definitely off men, having suffered at the hands of a love rat (Lance) and Giovanni, a man willing to take advantage of that innocence solely to further his career. There's also interfering/critical/controlling parents, overprotective brothers and the 'perfect' gentleman who, although not for this heroine, is a sweetheart nonetheless and has the BEST name I've ever come across in this genre 'James Champagne' (and yeah, he is as rich and traditional as his name implies).

Then of course there's the hero of this story... Quin Hawke. Angry, suspicious, definitely rough around the edges and, oh yeah... seriously HOT! ;) He's a man with demons, and the Mother from Hell, but he's someone you just KNOW is perfect for Aiden.

This story has love, betrayal, adventure, misunderstandings on an epic scale, starcrossed lovers, passion and a double happy ending. Really, what more could you ask for?

Some spoilers in here!
Ok this is my first Kimberley Reeves book so I have no idea if this is her norm or what, but I found this to be really frustrating to the point of screaming at my kindle app. She has basic writing skills - the sentences were smooth, no major grammatical errors, and the storyline (if you overlook the plot issues I list below) flowed nicely. And the sex scenes were quite sexy! What I don't understand is why the characters acted so stupidly. The heroine, Aiden, is a 25 year-old woman who (lives with? doesn't live with? ok the book actually goes back and forth on this one) with her wealthy parents who control all aspects of her life and are bullying her into marrying this nice guy James that she doesn't love. She goes out into the bayou, gets caught in a storm and meets the handsome and grumpy hero, Quin, who thinks she is there to spy on him. They then go on to act like they are in some parallel universe where normal rules of behavior don't apply. Want to know what someone's life has been like? DON'T ASK THEM! Get a research lawyer instead to spy on them. Another astute reader wondered why none of the characters were employing google - I totally agree. Also, as a grown woman, if your family is cruel to you and cuts you down, you should just continue to do whatever they say knowing it will never gain their approval because they don't actually love you. Sadly that part of the story rang slightly true because this rich girl was afraid she would be disinherited...but she is engaged to a rich guy and fooling around with another rich guy (thanks to the research lawyer she finds Quin is rich, of course) - but just because this rings true doesn't make her a more likeable character, just a more conniving one. Seriously I forced myself to keep reading because I thought the end must be right around the corner (it wasn't - this story is also waaaay to long for the thin plot) and I just kept getting more annoyed at the stupid stupid stupid people in this book. Sorry, I wanted to like it - the plot as advertised (girl gets caught in a storm, must spend night in bed with sexy stranger) sounded fun. It could have been so much more.

Bayou Boudoir 18 Jan 2012
By Lana Baker - Published on Amazon.com

Aiden's Bayou is a fun, relatively quick read. Good characterization throughout, with a couple of inconsistencies. Well-written, with few editable errors. For the most part, I love her brothers - I always wanted protective older brothers like these. Her mother is a classy dame. Cold-hearted bitch, but classy. Her father is a slightly stereotypical Italian family man, who doesn't seem quite as smart about his daughter as he is about his business empire.

Some things I noticed jumped out at me and made the story a little less great. For those small things, I'm taking off a star. Keep in mind that I didn't really notice them until I was done with the story, so they certainly didn't detract from my reading pleasure.

Any human being with even the tiniest bit of curiosity would probably have used the internet to find out what people were saying about them. I know that in Quin's situation, I most definitely would have. Then again, if he had, the huge dustup with his mother wouldn't have been a plot point, and the story would have had less punch.

I found it slightly unbelievable that Aiden, who takes everything her parents dish out at home, could be such an assertive and savvy businesswoman out in the real world. The intro into her previous love life took up a little too much time and didn't really add to the plot, particularly as neither partner is mentioned again, except in passing, in Aiden's thoughts.

Aiden's best friend, Vivian, says at one point in the story that she's "been in love with you for years." Apparently, she didn't think that a legal researcher with a solid employment record would be good enough for the likes of James Champagne and so never even flirted with him. Nowhere else in the book does this lack of self-esteem really show through. She's smart and attractive and cares deeply about her friend Aiden.

SPOILER ALERT! In the end, guests at a wedding are told that there had been several mistakes, and that they were actually present to witness a double wedding. Except that, any marriage licenses would have had to be obtained prior to this little switcheroo, and therefore, neither wedding is actually legal.

The chemistry between Aiden and Quinten is fairly sizzling, and the descriptions of unexpectedly seeing someone across the room, someone with whom one is freshly in love, are perfect and tug at the heartstrings. Ah, to be young and in love again! I really did enjoy this book while I was reading it, and would gladly read something else by this author in the future.
