3.0 out of 5 stars AD Police files, 4 Mar 2005
A warning for anime purists - this DVD release has only got an English dub - there is no Japanese soundtrack, which is a crying shame as the Animeigo release on the other side of The Pond has both an English and a Japanese dub. If you really want this series I would recommend the region 1 release.

As a fan of Bubblegum Crisis, both original (which I prefer) and 2040 (which still rocks) I just had to buy this. It is set before Bubblegum Crisis, though in the same universe, and concentrates on the activities of the AD Police. The Knight Sabers do not make an appearance, and the only character from BGC is Leon McNicholl. Sadly, Daly is not in this.

The quality of the animation is mostly good for the time (early 90s) though the style of anime changes between the first and the second episode. Also, in the last two episodes, though the style of animation improves, there is a tendency to drop into badly drawn still frames to tell bits of the story, which may suggest some difficulties in production.

The stories, though, are good, very intelligent, based in a similar cyberpunk universe to Blade Runner, where the question always asked is - in a world where life is becoming more and more mechanised, what is the importance of being human? The stories are also much darker, with a reasonable amount of violence and sex.

If you loved the original Bubblegum Crisis, then this is an important addition to your collection. If you have not seen Bubblegum Crisis, then this works as dark science fiction.

For the stories, most of the animation and the atmosphere and dark tone of this series, I would have given it four stars, but because of the glitches in the quality of the animation, and because this DVD has no Japanese sound track, I give it three stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars AD police..ANGRY MAN IT MAKES ME!!, 28 Feb 2005
Basically it could have been a great anime series full of ultra
violence, each 25 min episode(despite it being 100mins long whats up with that?) should be full of slight nudity and kickass characters, but it ISNT!!,the
first of the episodes is good it starts off the whole series with a bang, slick sexy and seemingly worth watching the characters are ok and the action is great...but after that it all goes wrong..

the second and third episodes seem to be rushed, the characters
are drawn differently, the animation taking on a more simplistic look, and one of the characters even changes
completely, from having a robotic beast of an arm to having
what seems to be just a very good replacement identical to a human one, and even the feel
of the series changes!! the characters take a more comical feel
towards each other and loose any chance of us getting in anyway attached to them.

basically it could have been so much more, but its worth buying just to watch the first 25 min episode, and then imagine what could have been,
but at this price i really wouldnt bother.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nah! Seen better., 18 Feb 2005

A spin off from the bubblegum crises/crash series, but more adult in nature. Bit like Bladerunner, cyborgs running amok in tokyo, being chased and destroyed by an elite squad "The AD Police". Nuff said, pretty naff, give a wide berth!
