Playing X-Men: Next Dimension requires looking at the moves menu. A lot. If you're the kind of person who likes to memorise lists of moves--maybe even finds it fun as it gives you a sense of accomplishment--this game is for you. If you just want a game to play with some friends without cramming as if for an exam, you'd be better off with a different fighting title.
But who doesn't love the X-Men? They're all represented here. The biggies (both good and bad): Wolverine, Rogue, Storm and Cyclops as well as Magneto, Mystique and Sabretooth. Other favourites also made the cut, including Gambit, Nightcrawler and Forge. The backgrounds are terrific, and in a particularly impressive design element, you can drift into other landscapes from your original map. For example, if while fighting from inside Dr X's mansion, you throw your opponent out the window, you'll find yourself outside on the garden map. It's a good trick, and it almost makes the load time between games reasonable (rematches are quick, but reloads that change environments are painfully slow).
Each character has their own special "super meter" attacks, and all are fitting of the mutant power detailed in the comic books. Playing one-on-one with friends in versus mode, you can calibrate your character so practised players have less "energy" for a more balanced game. These touches are appreciated. So while it's not as addictive as Tekken or any similar benchmark game, X-Men still has appeal with a reasonably well-thought-out game design and endearing character elements. --Jennifer Buckendorff

Let's start by saying that this is one of the hardest beat'em ups you'll find on the market.Featuring all your fave X-Men;Wolverine,Cyclops,Pheonix,Beast,Gambit,Storm,Rogue, as well as your fave X-Villains;Magneto,Mystique,Sabretooth,Juggernaut and Toad,the game certainly has an impressive choice of fighters.
The game has a unique story mode (which allows you to change characters throughout completing your quest),as well as your standard arcade mode,team,time attack etc.
I don't have any gripes with the game except the fact that some of the fights can be a little unbalanced-for example if you are Wolverine battling say,Cyclops-you'll find it very difficult to defeat him but on the other hand this could be looked at as a challenge...
On the whole I'd recommend this title as it offers solid gameplay,and the story mode is interesting to play as well 4/5.

This game didn't really have much publicity but I think it deserved some more after playing the game. But first lets deal with its flaws. The graphics aren't the best around and although the power moves look spectacular the characters themselves are not that detailed; their movement is not particularly special either. Also, the game is quite difficult (unless you have the cheats to turn enemy AI off (!)). Lots of people have also complained that the controls are awkward; I agree a little but I do think some reviewers exaggerate how awkward they are, however, I would warn people that there are a lot of special moves to memorise and without them gameplay can become dull and difficult.
Nevertheless, this is still a great game and is perhaps the best X-Men one around at the moment. There are loads of famous characters that you can play from the start and still some secret ones to unlock making 25 in total. There are also many arenas and what I think is really innovative is the way you can kick your opponent out of a window or down a cliff to a new part of the arena. This game is not especially wonderful. Its not ground-breaking (except for the forementioned arena thing) but its still competent. Any X-Men fan will have endless hours of fun using their favourite X-Man to beat up famous adversaries but I don't really think that non-fans will enjoy it that much. If you're a beat'em up game fan but not an X-Men fan, you'll probably have more fun with Super Smash Bros Melee or Bloody Roar Extreme as this game has nothing much to offer other than being able to fight with X-Men; which, by the way, I think is cool!

X-men: next Dimension has got to be the worst game I have ever played.Being a fan of X-men and the Mutant Academy games I was expecting a brilliant playable game that I could enjoy on my own and with friends.What I got was completely different.I played this on my own at first and discovered that the controls were very confusing, after about 3 hours of trying to get used to the controls I gave up.Later I asked a friend round and we played it together and even they complained that the controls were too confusing.The next thing wrong with the game is that it crashes a lot and takes a long time to load at points.I could list more problems with the game but if what I've mentioned so far hasn't put you off the game nothing will.
Now the good things.The good things are that the graphics are superb, not that that's what makes a game but the animations are great and the levels are great too with breakable scenery and being able to throw your opponent through to other parts of the stage (with great difficulty due to the controls) is brill.Other good things are the line up of characters, all the old ones are there with some new ones and unlockable ones(about 6 or 7 I think) but of course you most probably won't get round to unlocking them.
Anyway as you can tell I hate the game and I suggest that even die-hard X-men fans stay well away from this game.
