Amazon.co.uk Review

Film favourites Buzz Lightyear and Woody are back in action with their latest video-game offering, Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 2. The cowboy Woody is in trouble in a game that closely follows the plot of the hit computer-animated flick. Although the game is obviously aimed at luring fans of the movie of the same name, it does contain gameplay that will appeal to a wider audience. Toy Story 2 is not a perfect game, but it captures the playability and humour of the film, and also has movie-quality animations and graphics.

Woody finds himself kidnapped by Al, the evil toy collector, and it's up to Buzz to save the day--with a little help from the other toys in owner Andy's room. Buzz must venture outside Andy's house and into the local neighbourhood. Game environments include a perilous construction area, a toy barn, and a sky-rise apartment. Ultimately, Buzz will confront his arch nemesis, the Evil Emperor Zurg--but getting there is half the fun.

During his journey, Buzz must collect missing parts for Mr Potato Head. He also calls on his buddies Rex, Slinky Dog, and Hamm the piggy bank for helpful tips and directions. Controls are varied but can be confusing to master. Buzz can climb, do a "super foot stomp," fire his laser, and perform a Space Ranger spin attack to help him get through the various levels.--Bill Hutchens

Product Description

Take on the role of Buzz Lightyear, astronaut extraordinaire, in Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!. Your pal Woody has been taken by the Evil Prospector, a toy-collecting villain, and you must rescue him. Of course, you'll also be able to enlist the aid of your favourite Toy Story 2 accomplices, such as Hamm, Slinky Dog, and Rex the dinosaur.

Navigate each of three levels in five zones, collecting special toy accessories like rocket boots, grappling hooks, and moon boots. You'll solve puzzles and fight bad guys, and, on the last level of each zone, you'll get to face off with one of the Evil Prospector's boss toys. So onward... to infinity and beyond!

3.0 out of 5 stars Buzz Lightyear, 31 Mar 2002
By A Customer
After the success of the film, it was only natural for Disney and Pixar to bring out a related game. Woody has been kidnapped by a greedy toy collector and, with you as Buzz Lightyear, it is a race against time to save him.....

It takes a while for the game to load which is one major flaw. When you eventually start playing, you find yourself in Andy's house, in the first of 5 zones and 15 levels. To progress on to the next level you have to complete some mini tasks, for example find 5 of Bo Peep's lost sheep. If you succeed, she will give you a Pizza Planet token. Many of your favourite characters including Rex, Hamm and the soldiers will give you tasks.

You will be attacked by helicopters, planes and robots at the start. You can quite easily take care of them with your laser or if you are close up, by spinning. If you press and hold down the button it will take a more powerful shot, but if you spin, Buzz will get dizzy after it and it will take a few seconds for him to get ready again!

The controls are quite easy to use if you can master the biggest flaw in the game which is the camera angle. If you turn around you are suddenly facing the opposite direction and can't aim properly or if your walking up a plank of wood you suddenly fall off. They have another camera angle you can use which shows a side view of Buzz. Even with this it is still difficult to move around and go in the right direction. If they had sorted this out it would have been a great game because of the gameplay and the whole storyline.
