All About the Board
Using full motion sensing technology, the intuitive skateboard controller allows players to physically control the action by performing various movements and gestures on the board that directly translate into amazing tricks seen in the game. Closely resembling a "deck"--a board without wheels or trucks, which allows actual skateboarders to manoeuvre their boards--the Ride controller is built around a combination of flat and rounded surfaces. Along the majority of the board's upper surface, as well as the middle center portion of its bottom, players will find flat, level surfaces that provide for players' balance. This is countered by the rounded edges along the top at either ends, as well as the bottom outer edges. These allow for true to life trick performance mechanics which allows gamers to experience a full range of movement as they rotate, tilt and lift the board in a variety of ways to discover every trick in the game.

In addition, the Ride board comes with features designed to maximise ease and continuity of play. These include an upper surface texture similar to the grip tape used on real boards to help maintain player contact with and control of the board, and a full set of traditional navigational buttons that allow the player to interact with the game between levels and online when it is more convenient to do so.

Anyone Can Ride
Tony Hawk: Ride is designed to be fully accessible to everyone – from hardcore fans to players with no prior skateboarding experience. Moving away from the open-world game environment that recent releases in the franchise have embraced, Ride is instead built around a wide range of mini-challenges and events more concerned with riding than exploration. These cover every genre in modern skateboarding and aim to focus the player's attention on developing their skills with the board. And this is easy to do with addictive and engrossing gameplay without complex button combinations or analogue sticks that allows gamers to literally step on the board and play.

Exciting, Immersive and Social Game Play
Tony Hawk: Ride features a diverse set of trick, vert, and speed challenges that allow players at all levels to take on their friends and family as they compete with each other via "Hot Seat" game play. In addition, with robust multiplayer, online and create-a-skater modes, players can jump into a personalised and extremely social gaming experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars For all you skate boarding fans... 11 Dec 2009
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I pre ordered this game after watching loads of review videos etc on the net as it looked so good. I must say after receiving the game i dont feel let down. It is however much harder than the review videos make it look and you definatley need to practice.

Doing basic tricks, ollies, flips, grinds etc are all pretty easy - but fun - but what i have found difficult is turning, the board responds to the smallest movement, you can change the truck settings in the options menu but i didnt really find that much help.

I think once i have mastered the turning aspect of the board then this would be a 5 star rating.

The Gameplay - you get full training lessons to complete, both vert and street style. Free skate mode. You can play in easy mode where you dont have to worry about turning as its done automatically, but can still do all the tricks or you can play in 2 other settings where you have full control. Its basically designed so that anyone can pick it up and play. You can skate in exhibition mode or start a career. Graphically its pretty good and i havent come across any flaws as yet. There are quite a few destinations to unlock throughout the career.

The Board, its pretty amazing, very sturdy and can take up to 130kg of user weight. Its got a smooth, hard bottom which is to be used on carpets and they also supply some stick-on soft pads for use on wooden floors so that you dont scratch the floor. The top of the board is just like a skate board with grip tape. It takes 4 AA batteries but these are supplied in the box.

On your first setup you have to connect the board to the usb dongle which is plugged into the ps3, very easy to do. Just press the p button on the board controller for a few seconds and it connects.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love it so maybe you will too 29 Dec 2009
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
As a 30 year old woman (eek) who enjoys playing games on a casual basis. All I really look for in a game is something that I find to be fun and makes me want to squeeze in the odd hour of gameplay when I shouldnt really - as I have lots of grown up stuff to do! This makes me want to take timeout and play.

I have had no problems whatsoever when callibrating the board and I have the tiniest lounge area in the world with lots of furniture in close proximity to the board. I have only callibrated the board once and have had others play on it with no need to recallibrate for them. So in my case it has been a very simple process.

Its tricky to master but I like the fact I am going to have to put the time in to be good at it. I dont mind the soundtrack (not really my cup of tea), an option to stream your own playlist through the game would be a welcomed addition though.

Graphics are good. Board feels sturdy. And most of all I have found it to be great fun to play - surely thats all you want from a game?

Honestly, if you want to have fun, have secret desires to be a world class skateboarder and have some money burning a hole in your pocket, I would go for it!

All I want to do now is purchase a cheap pair of vans and a baseball cap to wear squinty style on my brow! Obviously only to be worn in the privacy of my home while stood aboard a plastic skateboard with no wheels! I salute you Mr Hawkes! You have turned me into a 12yr old boy!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Major problems with calibration 28 Dec 2009
Platform for Display:PLAYSTATION 3
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
Tony Hawk Ride (PS3)I've never sent in a review for anything until this product, I Got this game for my kids Christmas, they're skateboarding and PS3 mad and this was going to be a cool way for them to 'skate' during the winter. Unfortunately they've not been able to play it as it refuses to calibrate the board despite Mr Hawks telling you that this will be the easist thing you'll do in the game!! THE ONLY THING YOU'LL DO MORE LIKE!! I've followed every instruction to the letter. YOU MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 4 FEET CLEARANCE ALL AROUND THE BOARD which isn't stated anywhere on the packaging so if you only have a small room in which to play this DO NOT BUY IT! Luckily I have this space but even with this I've still not been able to calibrate the board. New batteries have been fitted, The dongle is synced correctly and nothing, The Activision Customer Service website seems to know all about this as well as it is the first and what seems the only fault that they're providing advice on all be it very limited! so I'm going to ask for my money back and try to find a way to cheer up my very unhappy kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun 21 Jan 2010

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Bought this game as a christmas present for my 21 year old brother in law. Gave it to him on Christmas Day and he spent all of that day and the next hogging the tv in the lounge to play it. Was fun to watch initially but much better to try, even if you have never skated before. Simple (almost no) controls and parents-in-law also gave a go (late 50s). I was suprised at how tiring it was- is good form of exercise as well as fun game. Some of the explanations of how to perform a move lack a little detail but could be achieved with trial and error. Was played on a hard wood floor with a rug. The rug is never normally a problem but kept slipping. Was a little concerned about scratching in-laws floor or wearing a hole in the carpet. Dont know how noisy it would be if you wanted to play upstairs as you do lift parts of the board.
