Amazon.co.uk Review

Spider-Man: The Movie brings your friendly neighbourhood web-slinger to life with engrossing realism, proving that a superhero game of such complex nature can be achieved with nearly flawless and non-intrusive gameplay. Be it wandering the city's environs in search of villains, or just checking out your surroundings by web-swinging high above them, you truly can do whatever Spider-Man can. It's all here: high-flying aerial battles, the ability to web up and yank your enemies close for pummelling, and the capacity for crawling or web-zipping up, down and over any surface--and that's just for starters. All in all, this is one involved game that doesn't fail to live up to the hype.

The game parallels the motion picture's storyline, steering you through a progression of challenges that begin with the hunt for Uncle Ben's murderer, and ends with a final showdown with the Green Goblin. You begin as Peter Parker dressed in his wrestling costume and must defeat a variety of thugs throughout each level before advancing to the next set of challenges. The game gets progressively tougher as you encounter in turn Shocker, the Vulture, Scorpion and, of course, the Green Goblin.

Visually, Spider-Man is a treat: cityscapes unfold in realistic detail and are enhanced by sunlight shining between buildings; cut scenes offer seamless animation; interiors are painstakingly recreated; and Spider-Man and his enemies are well rendered, moving about the screen in clean fashion. As an added bonus, most characters are voiced by their movie counterparts, and the training mode features the sarcastic wit of Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell. --Larry White

Pros:

  • detailed controls bring Spider-Man to life
  • challenging gameplay enhanced by numerous fight styles
  • stunning visuals at every level
Cons:
  • camera angles slow to respond at times
  • some interiors too dark
  • repetitive one-liners

Product Description

Spider-Man: The Movie allows fans to play as Spider-Man in several highly detailed 3-D environments inspired by Sam Raimi's live-action feature film. This full roaming action-adventure game allows you to jump into the suit of a fledgling Marvel superhero and learn how to battle the forces of evil. Crawl, leap, and swing from the dizzying heights of skyscrapers to catch criminals and supervillains, and, ultimately, come face-to-face with the Green Goblin in a death-defying display of aerial combat. During the course of the game you must use Spider-Man's spider sense, agility, quick wits, and strength to evade the pursuit of the bad guys and overcome obstacles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Web Swinging Action, 23 Jun 2002
Spiderman is one of the best superhero games to have appeared on a console. Based on the movie blockbuster, Spiderman has four main supervillians weaved into this rigidly level based offering. The Shocker, the Vulture, the Scorpion and the Green Goblin. In between these supervillians are a number of gangs who grow stronger and smarter as the game progresses. At your disposable, though, are a number of web attacks, as well as the ability to throw bins, barrels, tables and even cars, along with the usual kick-punch attacks.
The extra skills you may need to progress through the game can be learnt through the extensive training section on offer; teaching you how to make best use of spidey's powers. Spiderman can use his web shooters to swing across the city, create a zip-line which can be attached to a surface to quickly pull him in. Spidey can also use his webbing to tie up enemies, to generate hardened Web Gloves or to create a protective Web Dome.
The games graphics offer detailed environments and characters, with voice-overs from Maguire and Defoe. In all this is an a fun superhero action adventure allowing you to recreate all the fun of the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spiderman PS2, 14 Oct 2002
I'm 8 years old and I'm new to gaming as I just got my first games consol the PS2 last September.
I found Spider man the movie game perfect for me; it wasn't too long or too difficult. It took me around 4 weeks to do and I didn't need any Walkthroughs coz Spidey and his chums guide you through the action and what action!

The look of this game is amazing, this is the best looking game I've seen on PS2. It's bright and vivid and when I'm flying spidey through NY I feel dizzy because unlike Spidey I haven't got a good head for heights, so for me it a 10 out of 10, much better suited for me than the Batman Vengeance game that I'm struggling with.

5.0 out of 5 stars GAME OR MOVIE!!!?, 9 May 2003
By A Customer
This game honors itself with stunning graphics and amazing gameplay. Trust me you wont get board with this game unless you dissobey the mission objectives! the disc offers you a massive field of levels to accomplish I would reccomend this game for people who like plenty a dish of action (you've got my vote!). the storylines the same as usual rescue hostage destroy the evil buttfaced leader,(Green Goblin)-who you can be by starting the game on hero/superhero quiting to the menu, type in arachnid in the cheat options and finally going to last level (activated by the cheat) watch it go to secret store scroll to the bottom swich goblin on and cool you've done it! (You even get his glider!) To be mary-Jane go to cheat options and type in girlnextdoor (the conclusion is very amusing in which I would not reccomend young children to see!!) Back to the game er....10/10!!
