Spidey's reaction time is WAY TOO SLOW! You press the X button and he thinks about jumping. You want to change direction? Tough - you'll just have to wait till the animation has played out before your swing button works. In a game all about movement, such failings are totally unforgivable. I deeply regretted buying this game.
There is 1 real improvement in this game over Spiderman 2 for the PS2 - Spidey's movements are FAR more graceful and fluid this time 'round... BUT because he feels ALOT slower this time round, his newfound athleticism is not enough to make it a worthwhile purchase.
It takes forever to cross the landscape. Spidey always seems to be moving downhill; the arc of his swing feels really inhibited and awkward, which is a crying shame. Boohoo!
Touching the ground is made weirdly difficult - providing you have the swing button pressed he'll frequently swing from thin air!(?)
Getting to the top of building is frustratingly tricky to do quickly - which is pointless if you are SPIDERMAN!!!
Having made it clear that I hate this game - especially when comparing it with the much more responsive, amusing and EXITING Spiderman 2, what I don't know is if it plays any better on the PS3...
I concede that if you're new to the genre you might well enjoy this B-list game for what it is; an A-list pretender that lets you swing around a colourful city in a heroic way, but to me it too often feels like Spidey really wants to just stop and have a sit down, to get another LOAD off his mind, and the hero has become an ungainly cartoon version of his former self who cares too much about how he looks and not enough about how he moves, making us players into non-particiPANTS.
