Product Description

Following the colossal success of the Terry Farley compiled “Acid Rain”, we’re proud to announce the incredible follow-up and worthy companion, “Acid Thunder”. Once again compiled by House expert Terry Farley, “Acid Thunder” continues the journey of its predecessor with another collection of 59 incredibly influential House Music releases from the Vintage era of the sound, namely, 1985-1991. In addition, we are delighted to have finally managed to unearth 25 key tracks from one of House Music’s most influential labels, D.J. International. As with “Acid Rain”, all tracks have been immaculately re-mastered and have never sounded better. This collection also contains numerous tracks which have never been on compilations or available since their original release. Sleeve-notes this time are courtesy of Jacob Arnold, founder and curator of the hugely influential House Music website, Gridface. Once again, we have included a 32 page booklet containing all scans plus photos, flyers and other memorabilia from the archives of Terry Farley and Jacob Arnold. All 5 CDs and the booklet are within a hard-wearing clamshell box which will sit perfectly with “Acid Rain” for the collectors out there. As usual Harmless will be co-ordinating a huge Press and Radio campaign and we’ll be rolling the PR throughout the summer and into autumn 2014. This is must-buy purchase for all serious House Music aficionados.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great compilation... 1 Sep 2014

Got mine today and whilst I've not listened to it all yet, in my view it's probably got a better track listing than 'Acid Rain'. Superb value and great job by Terry Farley and all who made this happen. Hopefully there's enough material out there (perhaps more Nu Groove tracks) for a third installment.

This 5 disc "Acid Thunder" compilation follows last year's Acid Rain: Definitive Original Acid & Deep House 1985-1991 and like that set is well compiled and of breathtakingly good quality, covering the same period as its predecessor 1985 - 1991: "all killer no filler". OK, some of this will sound dated, but this collection contains music as influential as Motown and punk. Whilst compiler Terry Farley was once a fully paid-up member of the elitist despicable DJ b******d crew, now all we are left with is the music and stripped of his "club stuff" pretentions Farley is undeniably a world expert on US house music.

"Acid Thunder" is a great balance of tracks you know, tracks you didn't know you knew, tracks that you have never heard before that sound great, tracks that you didn't like at the time but do now and only the very odd track that will have you reaching for the skip button.

There really is too much good stuff to mention on here but, off the top of my head: it's good to see not one, but two amazing Bobby Konders' pieces (both from the classic 1990 NuGroove EP "House Rhythms") plus, K-Alexi Shelby, MK, Blake Baxter, Marshall Jefferson...well the list just goes on.

Less acidic and more deep house than the previous volume (but who cares about sub-genres anyway?) the predominant vibe is, though not exclusively, Chicago.

The package also contains an in-depth booklet - so engrossing in fact that you'll probably want to read it after (or between) listening to the discs. There's even a section on NuGroove Records' Burrell Brothers - pity they're not on the record though?

this is a fine release by Terry Farley who certainly knows his stuff. As said by the other review its more easy to listen too then Acid Rain as there are some classics and the discs are broken down into different styles, really good though and money well spent.

In my opinion this compilation is slightly better than Acid Rain and a little less Acid Music.
A great listen with a tonne of great tracks.
Can't wait for compilation number 3 now.....
