With his current run on the ABC Warriors Pat Mills is really starting to drive me insane. I've always thought of him as a great ideas man but only an average writer, who often seems to struggle to fit a decent story together once he's conjured up a great high concept (Metalzoic being a classic example of this). His current run on the ABC Warriors seems to be bringing out the worst in him: take away the concept (going back in time to reveal the events of the oft talked about Volgan War) and what you're left with is a seemingly unending stream of very bad puns crowbarred into the script presumably for Pat Mills' amusement.
Dodgy script aside the big draw for most people here is going to be the artwork, which is an often dazzling mix of photos and 3D models reworked in photoshop. On the whole it's as excellent as you'd expect... until there's an action scene. As soon as a fight breaks out over a series of panels the artwork suddenly falls to pieces as Clint Langly hits the Motion Blur filter and it becomes almost impossible to figure out who's doing what to whom. Often the only way to figure out what's gone on is to see who's still talking at the end - anyone who isn't is presumably dead, though who exactly killed them, and how, usually remains something of a mystery.
In short you're buying this for the artwork, not the writing, though for all the dazzle (which is the only thing most people will be interested in) Clint Langly just can't do action scenes - not with any dynamism anyway.
