While Mrs Merton, Mark Radcliffe, Chris Evans and others have gone to "bigger" things they all had their start, or were part of, the Frank Sidebottom phenomenon. Was it the paper maché head that held Timperley's favourite son back? Maybe, but if you can look past that, you'll find real unique comic genius at work here. Looking back at this material the songs are just... fantastic, you just can't pick a favourite (his own 'Blackpool Fool' or 'Anarchy in Timperley'?), although more dialogue would have been nice and material from his earier Regal Zonophone period is missed (esp. 'Sci-Fi' EP). Nonetheless as this is the only thing you can actually buy here apart from the Fantastic Shed Show VHS (another must-have) I urge you to get this. Frank still makes the odd appearance, there are rumours of new material as well as some re-issues so his story isn't over yet - and I have a feeling Frank will finally get the recogniction that he undoutably deserves. "Thank you".

Francis Gordon Sidebottom has been around so long that it's difficult to remember a time when he wasn't. His showbiz career is a typically British one and his shows are a weird mix of club-style cabaret, one fingered keyboard playing and ventriloquism with the marvellous Little Frank.

If you've ever seen Frank in the flesh at times it feels as if the records don't really do him justice, but is a little harsh because the records are a treat in themselves. Frank's whole act is family-friendly on one level but simultaneously hilariously subversive on others as this collection shows, managing to veer from Kylie to Mark E Smith with barely a miss of a beat and taking in a slew of pop-culture and pop history on the way.

It's a mark of such a great idea and mind behind it that the conceit is so well-constructed that you can almost, just almost even able to suspend disbelief, unless you consider the whacking great fibreglass head, but you know...

This collection does a good job of collecting some gems from someone who really is a national treasure and should have received far more mainstream acclaim than he has managed, so far.

Why other clients buying this CD have also bought music from artists such as Radiohead and Chris Morris I'll never know - intense, contraversial and hard to listen to this is not. Well, OK maybe the latter, yes.
Sidebottom places all his best hits on this fantastic compilation CD, including possibly the best contribution to indie music ever - the Indie Medley. Listen in wonder as he pays homage to the likes of the Sex Pistols, The Beatles (who?) and The Fall.
If you like your music with lets say "an edge", then this is for you. However, if you don't get the joke, don't buy this - spend your money on a Toploader album instead.

It was very, very sad to hear that Frank died yesterday (21/06/10)).

This CD is the best available introduction to his comedy genius. Brilliant and inspired, cherish his unique gift.

frank Sidebottom is timperly's wonder and this album captures his greatest music together in a single disc from anarchy in timperly to electricity you'll find nearly all his songs here. his music can be really uplifting and enthusiastic though there are some songs on here that are a bit disappointing. the better songs are very good it is a must have for anyone who needs cheering up!.
