Don't waste your bursary on this book. It is poorly written in parts and is certainly not evidence based. The information provided is not based on NICE or RCOG guidelines or Cochrane reviews. I'm not really sure who the book is aimed at, but it is certainly no use for a student midwife who needs to work within current evidence-based practice.

You know, this book isn't half bad. It's a little simple in places, but overall it's a staraightforward look at those crucial weeks before birth. Screening tests? They're here, and explained. Guidelines? Perhaps not absolutely current, but you can get those from the Internet. This gives you an understanding of what happens, rather than slavishly following a protocol that happens to be in vogue currently.
Recommended for all with an interest in the antenatal stage: medical students, doctors, student midwives, and even the public.

Am extremely disappointed. Topics are rather vague, basic and short. If I'd picked this off the shelf, so to speak, I would never have bought it. Mayes midwifery is far more informative.
