One for the designers I fancy. A delightful pop-up A to Z in a minimalist format that creative folk will love. Almost every letter has a three-dimensional aspect, the exceptions are O,P,Q and R which use a transparent page to turn the letters from one to another. V creates a W using a whole page of mirror foil. Everything else pops up or slides left to right with the letter S having two circles that revolve as the spread is opened.
The look and feel of the book is that it is aimed at grownups. The type is loosely based on Futura presented in black, red and white on black and white spreads. The paper construction is not particularly complex but the overall effect is very creative: like using a common dot for an i and j or a C being flipped over into a D.
I don't see ABC3D in the same context as a kids pop-up book and it's in the completely opposite direction from the stunning creations by Robert Sabuda (and if you are new to pop-ups check Sabuda's extraordinary 'Winters Tale' ISBN 978 0689853630) but as an adult pop-up keepsake it has a lot going for it. Incidentally I'm surprised that there is nothing about Marion Bataille anywhere in the book.
