I am relatively new to ABAP and I can say that for me, at least, this is an invaluable guide to the language. It covers commands up to release 4.6 but it is not clear whether this is 4.6c or 4.6d or some other release.
It lists all commands alphabetically which is a shame as I thought they ought to have been grouped by subject area (e.g. string functions, maths functions etc). However if you have a rough idea what you are trying to do, you should be able to find the command you need.
The appendices list the system tables, transaction codes and other useful information such as type conversions and how to do batch data communication.
A very useful book for the beginner in ABAP and, I suspect, the seasoned pro as well.
Not the easiest read I've encountered and quite difficult to follow. Instructions seem to jump from page to page so you are continuously turning back and forward to complete a task. If you've got the patience, then you can work through the lessons. I would think it was originally published in German and then translated, or at least that's the impression I got.

Obsolete and incorrect

1. The book claims that you find every ABAP command for release 4.6. Unfortunately ABAP Objects, which was rolled out with release 4.5 and is an important part of ABAP is not described at all.
2. The commands are rather explained on a 3.0 than a 4.6 level. Syntax is often incomplete.
3. Many explanations are technically wrong.

It could be good for project or support managers who want to have quick printed reference paper. Otherwise...
