I purchased this book along with Frommer's "France's Best-Loved Driving Tours" and was very disappointed to find that these two books are chapter-by-chapter, word-for-word, picture-for-picture identical. I believe the Frommer version is a few year out of date, but I did not find any immediately noticeable differences. The AA version included a section with somewhat detailed maps, but as a driver you should be buying the Michelin book of maps or something comparable, so it does not add any value. Save yourself some money and buy one or the other, else you will also be very upset.
As for the content, the book contains only about 170 pages of actual content, much of which (~40%) is pictures. It includes some useful information like thinks to keep your kids busy, hikes and walking tours where you can leave your car and follow some footpaths, and places where you can get some extra history education. The pictures are all professionally done and provide a useful snapshot for what you will be seeing. Road directions are provided but are all very brief and do not provide any information as to potential difficulties or landmarks to help make navigating the highways a bit easier.
I was tempted to give this book a 2 star rating, due to the mix-up with the Frommer's book, but decided it was my fault that I did not research more. The 3 stars is intended to rank this book's content by itself. It is average at best.
