2.0 out of 5 stars Not well regarded by my students, 26 Jun 2008
This was the first year that I used this book to give to my A2 Government & Politics students. The verdict was not good. The feedback that they gave me was that the book was overly skimpy in its treatment of US politics, providing only the bare bones of the constitutional and institutional set-ups and little more. On this basis I'll be trying something different next year.

5.0 out of 5 stars A2 students need to use more than one textbook., 28 Dec 2006

A criticism of this book, by one reviewer, was that it was skimpy for A2 work. My answer to that is that students should not rely upon one textbook when it comes to A2 US Government and Politics. This text, by Anthony J Bennett, is an excellent core textbook when it comes to the specifications for AQA. Though, if you are striving for an A-Grade, you need to rely upon much more than one textbook. What is more, the key to success in examinations does not readily flow from a textbook. The art of success, in examinations, is to develop and then practice practice the skill of answering examination questions in timed conditions. This textbook is an excellent resource, with valuable insight into US politics and some useful comparative UK/US elements.

5.0 out of 5 stars It got me through A-levels, 8 Nov 2007

A book which maintains that fine balance between telling you enough deatiled information to pass the exam while not overwhelming you.

While not written for any particular exam board I found it particuarly useful for AQA (Politics of the USA) and the comparative UK/US politics unit with chapters closely following that specification.

Like any textbok it dates as soon as it is published so it must of course be supplemented with more recent reading but for anyone doing A2 Goverment and Politics I think it is an essential purchase.
