This book is brilliant in providing all the information required to get a good high grade at A - level english language.
It's easy to understand and the exercises help you to learn quicker, there is also some exam practice questions that get you used to the style this syllabus offers.
Well worth the money, as its assure thing to recieving your excellent grade.
Reccommend it to all A-level english language students, who are using the AQA syllabus B.

If you're teaching the AQA Spec B, then this is obviously a book you're going to be buying anyway (possibly in class-sized quantities). However, in common with the sister title for AS, it's not necessarily the very best book for student revision purposes, and despite being as close to an 'official' syllabus-orientated text as you can get, its exercise-&-commentary style often is more skills- than exam-focused. The section on Editorial Writing is essential for students on the course; the other sections are generally okay. The 'Revision Express' AS/A2 book (recently revised) is a better recommendation for most lower ability students, if they're only buying the one revision book, however.

I'm in my second year of studying English Language and I'm almost at my exams. This book has just been recommended to me by my teacher and I'm disappointed that I've only just found it, as the information and tasks in the Synoptic Unit (Language Acquistion and Language Change) are very thorough and it looks to be the same standard in the unit on Editorial Writing. I borrowed it from our library and after reading a few pages I just HAD to have one of my own. I'm not an expert on revision guides, but I shopped around and this one was the cheapest (with free delivery - you can't go wrong). I think the book is very well set out (however some of the tables are a little bit difficult to read as they can be spread over a couple of pages; a sentence will start on one page and finish on another), and the tasks are very good - one of the exercises is filling in a table with Halliday's 7 functions of language - it really helped me to learn them all.
There is also a good bit of reading on language theorists and theories and I think that the fact that it is all compiled into one (not too thick) book makes it a must for English Language students. I also think that, for the most part, it is very well set out; there are tables, paragraphs of texts and task boxes, which are usefully highlighted in grey. I don't think it is too hard to read; you can take it in sections and it does not require rapt concentration.
