I am currently studying an OU primer course in Maths and this book along with its AQA A-level partner were recommended by my Tutor. The AQA syllabus closely mirrors the OU primer. This review applies to both the AS and A2 books.
As the books are not cheap and Amazon does not offer massive discounts on A-level texts I made a visit to Waterstones where I was able to check their suitability and compare them with their main rivals. I must have been impressed because I walked out of Waterstones with copies of both!
All I can say is that I am amazed how good the books are. The sections are clear and well presented. The authors and publishers have spent a lot of time working on the textual explanations so you are eased through each step in the mathematical process. The CDs are useful, using PDF files which integrate well with the textbooks. At the end of each section there's lots of relevant practice questions to try.
The Maths textbooks I used in the 1970's were dull and opaque compared to these - no wonder exam results are improving!
Highly recommend had the AS and A2 version of this book which both provide a bountiful number of practice questions. The book also goes through an example which is annotated for each section and has mock exam papers at the end of each module (which are outdated but still useful).
