Ann Wales first attended Elmhurst Ballet School in Surrey, after finishing her education she became a ballerina in the Bolshoi Ballet. Following an accident on stage Ann was forced to leave ballet, she chose to become a nurse joining the Queen Alexandra's Royal Nursing Corps. Whilst serving as a nurse Ann was based at both RN Haslar and at Buckingham Palace in the resident medical corps.

Ann was a Benedictine Nun for a short time; however illness prevented her from taking her vows. Ann returned home to Brockenhurst in Hampshire where she soon met her husband Dr Wales. Not long later Ann was blessed with two children, and so the writing began.
