Product Description

Synopsis

"A-Level Politics Made Easy" is just that: a concise, compact guide to the politics syllabus, which discusses and summarises all the key points students need. This book will be an invaluable aid throughout the course and key when it comes to revision before the exam. All the key areas of the current syllabus are covered: Race and ethnicity; law and order; the UK welfare state; education; health; housing; Northern Ireland; the economy and its management; and the complex relationship between the UK and the EU. Each chapter discusses the main areas to remember, summarises the main points, and provides sample exam questions from previous years. "A-Level Politics Made Easy" has a comprehensive referencing system and bibliography that point students in the right direction for further reading, and recommends useful websites. This is a book no politics student should be without.

Bloor has created a book aimed at A level politics students - and to do him justice, he's really tried.

Of course, one of the impossibilities of writing an A-level politics book is not only the broad range of topics in varying amounts of depth - but finding relavant examples, something Bloor doesn't even attempt to try.

I'd give this book 4 stars, because it's VERY good for learning the basic political context of each module - but it lacks on the substantive, and is frequently too shallow.

Don't buy this book thinking it will get you an A - it won't - but it will provide you with the basis to go out and get yourself one.

4.0 out of 5 stars well recommended 7 Sep 2006
Kevin Bloor has managed to do the impossible, make a work on A-level politics that combines ease with detail and practicallity with fun. Although his work can certainly not be considered as highly in depth as others this acts as a pro rather than a con providing students with an A-level book that can be both revised and learnt from without being found dull as so many others are to the average A-level student. Although the book can seem to be a heavy load to give to a new student the writing inside is light, well written and (possibly more importantly) gives a structured and simple approach to what at times can seem a structureless course which makes this book both useful to teachers as well as pupils. the book is not only very capable of getting pupils through the exams but also of doing something very rare in getting pupils interested in the subject themselves. This is because the book itself is interactive not just getting pupils to understand the course in more detail through getting them to discuss political issues but also helps them find out about their own political beliefs.

A well recommended work
