4.0 out of 5 stars Classic bead embroidery 30 April 2007
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A beautiful book which I would definitely recommend to to beginners as the instructions and photo illustrations for the various stitch techniques are clear and easy to follow. For the more experienced bead embroiders there is an interesting section on Tambour Work.

The section on fringes is exceptional, and, again, the instructions are easy to follow even for what look like complex fringes. It also shows how a really original fringe can be created using only four or five different beads. I just can't wait to incorportate "Borealis" into one of my projects!

I also just loved the illustrations and info boxes scattered throughout the book concerning the history of beads, the Properties of Crystals, the meaning of colour in Zulu Beadwork, etc.

The designs with full instructions are also very beautiful, but the only reason I didn't give five stars is because I found most of them rather classical, concentrating mainly on flowery designs.

But still one of my favourite bead books.

This book contains a range of stitches and techniques for applying beads to fabric. All are illustrated with good colour photographs and clear explanations. The spiral binding means that the book will either lay flat or can be propped up with ease. Recommended.

I purchased this book as I thought it would be a useful reference guide to help me with embellishment design work. Lovely clear photos, and the section on different types of fringes is especially good. More than worth a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply incomparable 4 Jun 2012
By BookFiend - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book contains so many exquisite projects, all very clearly photographed in color, and in detailed step-by-step fashion. The first part of the book gives you a complete guide to beads, fabrics, materials, tools, transferring designs, stitches and techniques. Attaching sequins is also covered.

There are 19 designs on fabric and 12 edgings and fringes. Each project design is named and includes the artist's name and what part of the world they are from. Not only are the beading techniques given, but patterns are included in the back of the book. Additional information is given such as the meaning of the colors used and the healing powers of crystals.

The book is spiral bound to lay flat while working with it. It's just a wonderful book and all the designs are so pretty!

I love this book. The illustrations and pictures are clear and unambiguous and simply beautiful to look at. There is perhaps a little too much emphasis on beaded fringing but the examples are all so beautiful it is hard to really complain.
