Doing exactly what it says in the title, this is a trawl through the key events and pop culture of the 80s. Very Brit-centric, it's clearly personal and highly idiosyncratic, but more fun because of that. For example, INXS and The Smiths are in (and so they should be), U2 aren't mentioned at all, whereas "Voice Of The Beehive" is and whilst "Pretty In Pink" gets a mention, "The Breakfast Club" doesn't (and those are, clearly, my personal and idiosynractic picks). However, the book is seriously let down in the production department - some parts don't appear to have been copy-edited and some of the full-page illustrations are grainy, blurred, black & white screen grabs - but worse, there are some basic errors which put me into doubt about the level of fact checking. The key one I noticed was that it was Bill Forsyth, not John, who directed `Gregory's Girl' and Dee Hepburn (not Dawson) who starred as Dorothy. Unfortunately, in a reference work, however light-hearted it might be, that's an issue. Good fun, in general, but flawed.
