Format:VHS Tape
Joan Crawford, disfigured in a fire as a child, runs a gang of blackmailers in Sweden. She falls in with Conrad Veidt, who has his eye on an inheritance, and with plastic surgeon Melvyn Douglas. You can see what's coming next. Spoiler alert! Will the newly beautiful Joan become beautiful on the inside too? It's a wonderful film, framed by her trial in a Swedish court (you don't find out what she's on trial for until well into the movie). Cracking performances from all concerned including minor roles like Henry Daniell as a court official, Marjorie Main as a faithful servant, and the woman who plays Joan's sidekick. WHY IS THIS MASTERPIECE NOT ON DVD?????
