Product Description

Album Description

Marc Bolan started work on his new songs after leaving the group Johns Children and also taking a couple that he'd recorded with them as well and started to create something \221big' in his plans for the future. As big as a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Some songs were worked through at home on his own and some with Steve Peregrine Took who would be the percussionist. Tyrannosaurus rex released four albums, three with Took and one with Mickey Finn who would later enjoy teen adulation with marc in T.Rex. What we have here are home demos and work in progress and live shows all of which are ultra rare as it was considered a few years ago the some of this material simply did not exist.

This box contains totally unheard material from Marcs own tapes (recently re uited with the family), incredible snippets of work in progress, unused version \ of songs that differ from the final released track.

The booklet included in the box contains extensive liner notes and rare memora ilia from the Tyrannosaurus Rex fan club. The box also contains a miniature co y of a Tyrannosaurus Rex concert programme from the Queens Hall in London 1969.

Disc One includes the final broadcast of John Peels Perfumed Garden show from late sixties Pirate radio which is completely unreleased.

Disc Two Contains totally unheard material from Marcs own tapes (recently re un ited with the family), incredible snippets of work in progress, unused version of songs that differ from the final released track, Sleepy Maurice was issued a s a fan club 7\224 and along with Chateau in Virginia Waters, Child Star, High\ ays and a version of Demon Queen appear on the boxed set \22320th Century Superstar\224 the rest of the material is unheard,

Disc Three contains two London shows the lyceum enjoyed a limited released in t he nineties however the queens hall show is totally unreleased.

Disc Four featuring marc and Steve live in New York is unreleased.

Disc Five includes the two tracks from the 7\224 single by Marc's next short li ved project Dib Cochran & the Earwigs featuring Rick Wakeman and unreleased ja m from those sessions , an unreleased live version of Pavilions of Sun from Holland and a totally unheard version of Oh baby demoed whilst still TyrannosaurusRex.

Disc Six includes a DVD of extremely rare footage of Tyrannosaurus Rex all of which is unreleased.

Nostalgia. 2 Nov 2010
Format:Audio CD
I loved this cd. After spending all my teenage years playing tyran rex and T.rex it was great to hear this, some 40 years later! I still play a lot of Rex albums from the late 60s and it takes me right back to my little bedroom, walls covered in posters of Marc and the boys. Wonderful.

This is a wonderful box set which covers the Tyrannosaurus Rex years of Marc's career, in extremely comprehensive fashion.
Disc one, comprises excerpts from the very last broadcast of John Peel's "Perfumed Garden" show on pirate radio in 1967, interspersed with songs from Bolan, Tyrannosaurus Rex & John's Children. This recording really does show how taken Peel was with Marc's music & voice. I'm sure that this will be a real nostalgia fest for those who used to listen to Peel on Radio London, all those years ago.
Disc Two is a "Demos & Work In Progress" section with some marvellous takes on some of the best loved of the Tyrannosaurus Rex material & has some real little treasures like "Deep Summer" & "Demon Queen" (plus a pretty odd recital by June Child).
There are two live discs (both from 1969)featuring a wealth of material from "My People.." & "Prophets..", which are a testament to that, rough around the edges, almost "Do It Yourself" feel that, in my humble opinion, alot of the Tyrannosaurus Rex recordings have.
Disc 5 starts with a fairly lengthy & very interesting interview with Marc that took place in Chicago in 1969,plus some pretty awful Dib Cochran & The Earwigs recordings.
On top of the 5 CDs, you also get a DVD & a very well done insert booklet.
Another triumph from the folks at the "Easy Action"label, they really are doing Marc & the Bolan legacy proud, with these box set releases & this is no exception - just brilliant in every way,

D. Sieruga 9 July 2007

I have to admit I was disappointed. For as many discs as this box set holds, I didn't find much I didn't already own. Then there is the horrific sound quality. There was no attempt to re-master the demos on the CD. Much of it is unlistenable. I am a huge Marc Bolan fan and own well over 20 of his various works. My advice would be to pass on this one though.

Yeah the sound stinks....BUT 26 Dec 2007

These are demos; tons and tons of demos. Some available on other comps , some not.....Bolan must have had a tape recorder going every moment of his life , with all the stuff that is out there. Hey , look , if you can get over the sound , you will find a veritable treasure-trove of rarities here. No worse than the bootleg vinyls of LP days. Plus it gives you one more opportunity to hear a sorely-missed performer. Truck on (tyke) !

A Whole Zinc of Finches 5 CD + 1 DVD set 16 Aug 2009

An excellent product and well worth the money. The live sets are very raw but being 40 years old they can be forgiven that slight niggle. The demos and work in progress material are exiting and show what Marc was thinking in those early days even if they again are slightly raw sounding. The DVD is full of rare footage especially the Kempton Race Course material. Overall I'm very happy with the set.
