Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The point 'n' click adventure game A Vampyre Story tells the tale of the beautiful, gifted opera singer Mona De Lafitte, whose life is brought to an abrupt end by a vampire baron named Shrowdy Von Kiefer. Henceforth, she is doomed to a miserable existence as a creature of the night in Von Kiefer's gloomy castle in Draxsylvania. Confronted with her seemingly hopeless fate, she decides to run away and try to fulfill her dream of singing at the Paris Opera. Accompanied by her mischievous bat Froderick, Mona must face a number of challenges in her odyssey and learn not only to accept her vampire nature, but also to use the abilities she has acquired to her advantage.

In more than 50-hand draw locations, the player's task is to guide Mona through Draxsylvania and to Paris by using her powers of deduction. Along the way, Mona meets a wealth of partly endearing, partly frightening, but often just plain weird characters, including the inventor Dr. Riga Mortus, the gypsy Madame Strigoi, and Carpathia the wolfwoman.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where is the rest? 1 Dec 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I loved playing this game. Great humour and graphics. However, I managed to finish it in two days.
Also, I did not know that this is only the first chapter out of supposedly 3!! This was not mentioned in the product description and I was highly disappointed when the game suddenly came to an end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, funny and brilliant! 26 Nov 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
If you like Grim Fandango, the Monkey Island series and The Dig, then this game is for you. The story begins with our protagonist Mona with her impertinant yet absolutely funny sidekick bat, Froderick, trying to find the means to escape the confines of Castle Warg and back to Paris.

The interface is similar to Curse of Monkey Island in which you point and click at various items and moving your character around. The background is nicely designed and the voice acting ranges from brilliant to absolutely hilarious. Unusually you can't really alter the screen resolution to the quality you want, in fact, the game plays to the resolution of your screen. (That's maybe because I was playing it on a 15.4 inch laptop).

The script in this is superb, a lot of humour that involves myself laughing to almost no end. Ingenius! Much like Grim Fandango. It is also directed by a former LucasArts worked Ben Tiller, who has done works on the Monkey Island series. This game lived up to my expectations.

The reasons why I didn't give them full marks were of two things:
1. The sound and graphics can be a bit buggy in terms of CG synching with the sounds
2. It's lastability... I managed to finish this in two days but it still feels a bit short. Don't get me wrong, it was actually a game worthy of me replaying (and that is saying a lot, not many games get that type of attention from me, only Castlevania: Aria and Dawn of Sorrow got that much replaying from me and I normally sell my games once completion).

But don't let this spoil you too much for the price you pay, it is actually really, really good value for money. I'm definitely getting a few copies as christmas gifts for a few friends I know that will definitely enjoy this game.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Vampyre Story 7 April 2010
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Played this game when it first came out. Gameplay was quite good but the characters were very irritating. In addition it kept sticking during the cut scenes, annoying because you missed out on some information. Tries to be funny but fails miserably.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 16 Mar 2009
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
For the price I was expecting to receive a full length game. This is nowhere near long enough to justify the price as I finished it in just two days. If I'd known this was just the first chapter of the game and not the fully finished product I would never have bought it. Nowhere in the reviews or on the box does it state this is just chapter one of three. Save your money and buy a full game from another company and not an extended demo

3.0 out of 5 stars So-so and so... 4 April 2009
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Okay, it's okay.

Bad points:
1. The voice acting is absolutely terrible. My partner came in during one of Mona's speeches and he nearly died laughing. French? I think not. Mona's annoyingly strained voice made me turn the voice off and just use the subs.
2. There's nothing in it to get the heart racing. I played through it in a semi-daze. What I mean by heart racing is like in Longest Journey when pril breaks into the monster's house in the woods and you've got to make it fall into the fire. That was jokes. This isn't.
3. You don't really feel for Mona. She's a whiner.
4. It is not funny. The dialogue is bland and predictable. No lols here. I chuckled twice. And they were both World of Warcraft homages.

However, although all the above bugs me. I still bought it, and I still play it. If anything you can trick yourself into thinking you are back int the late 80s/early 90s when adventure p&c gaming truly rocked.

So buy it and have ago. It's not a waste of time, but it won't be the best time of your life -The art work is nice, and there are some fun puzzles to get your teeth into... ^^

5.0 out of 5 stars Pay attention game companies...... 5 Jan 2009
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Ok, finally a proper point and click adventure!!!! What is it about gaming companies where they feel a constant need to change and develop things? If it ain't broke don't fix it I say.
This game rocks on so many levels, but mainly because it is in the classical point and click style of monkey island, beneath a steel sky et al. If you make this sort of adventure game, it will sell. Why do you think they were so popular in the 80s and 90s? Because they are the most awesome sort of adventure game in many many people's opinion.
The graphics, puzzles, sounds, music, voice-acting, humour, everything about this game is blimmin' great and it would be so nice if more companies reverted to this style of game. Tell you what, why not overhaul the graphics etc on loads of retro classics like day of the tentacle, BaSS, Monkey island 1 & 2 etc? And full throttle, sanitarium, the list is massive. Make them look nicer for the fickle new generation of gamers, get them fully vista compatible and they will shift. End of rant. Drewpy out.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The main character had a veryy annoying voice and the bat would just not keep quiet. The dialogue was also NOT FUNNY.The scenery was always pretty but the graphics for the characters could have been better. .. I had to use the cheats alot but that was because I am generally impatient , i dont think the game was difficult.
over all a good game. similar to Monkey island but that was alot funnier.
