An absoulte pop gem highly recommended for fans of Lloyd Cole or Edwyn Collins, includes a delightful tribute to Francoise, Sylvie, Jane and Brigittie in "Yeah Yeah Girl":

When you were young you sung all those brittle tunes on hot afternoons

About the sea and the stars lost love and cars

Yet over the water you were what ought to an exotic daughter

I still love those tunes on hot afternoons

Life is in a whirl life is just a pearl for the yeah yeah girl

Oh, I wanted to give it more... because I'd count Bill's "Happiness..." and "Three Months..." as amongst the most wonderfully intelligent and poetic pop records I've heard - still enhancing my life years after their respective releases.

But this just seems like a work-in-progress... genuinely half-baked musical ideas - bland at best, soporific elsewhere - and lyrics that only ever venture from banal to trite (some of the rhymes are so grim I can only assume that they're meant to be some sort of bizarre Brechtian joke...).

Plus points then. Erm... well, his voice is still there, so perhaps he'll tour (but perhaps with an emphasis on the old stuff..? Bill..? Bill..?). Better still, perhaps - in spite of this review - he'll tour in the UK.

Alas, however, I don't think I'll ever need to listen to this particular record again.

It feels like he picked up right where he left us - but at the same time is obviously a more mature work. Terrific album.
