When Hattie Darling’s husband Ben dies on his first night home from an extended business trip, she is devastated. But when she finds among his belongings evidence that there had been another woman in his life, Hattie is unable to mourn Ben as she thinks she should. At the heart of this emotional novel is the intertwining of the lives of two very different women who connect in unexpected and inspiring ways.

3.0 out of 5 stars Riveting...until the end 13 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book, one of those books that you have to spend ALL your spare time reading until you've finished.
I got involved with all the characters and it made me think about how I would have dealt with the situation.
I only gave it 3 stars because the ending was wrong - too abrupt and no conclusion. There was a predictable way this book could/should have ended, and I really don't mind a twist at the end with something unexpected happening, but this left too much unfinished. It's all very well leaving it to the reader's imagination but if I wanted to do this I would be writng books!

4.0 out of 5 stars An easy read for the sunbed! 14 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
In fairness, this isn't really my type of book, I'm more into intrigue and suspense, but I did actually enjoy reading this!

It's hard to comment without giving away the plot. Ben Darling has worked away from home for most of his married life. He and his wife Hattie live in a small, sleepy country town, and Hattie has never wanted to go with Ben on his travels for work. The book starts with Ben returning home, has a big reunion with his wife and promptly
dies. Doesn't take much imagination to work out that he has a big secret, or what it is!

The storyline is that Hattie wants to find out the secret and sets off on her journey.

It's not a mystery story, but one about what Hattie finds out, and how she deals with her discoveries.

Perhaps the book is best described as a gentle, enjoyable read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre reading 12 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Bought this on a Kindle daily deal for 99p. I'm glad I had not spent more on this book, as the story line was tepid, I had no need to rush back to this book inbetween chapters, as I was not bothered about what was happening to the characters. It was a totally unbelievable and rediculous story line, that had little substance and depth. I came to pity and dislike the main character for being such a stereotypical weak stay at home wife, easily fooled and glad to find a bit of intrigue in her sad average life. Her moral compass spins out of control for her own entertainment and she does not end up doing the right thing. I had to skip through the last few chapters as it was so awful only to find a disappointing ending. Even for 99p, don't bother in this self indulgent writing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read 1 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Enjoyed the book, got very drawn into the lives of the characters, read it in 2 days. Was disappointed with ending and lack of depth which is why the 3 stars. Would recommend if you want something easy to read with a good storyline, don't purchase if you are expecting a deep and meaningful highly emotional book. In my opinion it was a good storyline but was too calm.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read 7 Jun 2013

Enjoyed this book. First thought it was cruel not to share news of death but story wouldn't have played out the same. Not totally unbelievable to lead double life and care for both families. Won't be letting my hubby work away!
