Lara, the heroine of this story, is a married lady. She is a beautiful redhead who presents a cold, hard exterior to the rest of the world. She does this as a defense mechanism. This is as a direct result of her discovery, soon after her honeymoon, that her husband was cheating on her, and that he had no intention of changing his philandering ways. The married couple live with her father, on her family's ranch. Sadly, when Lara confided in her father about her troubled marriage, he was extremely unsympathetic. To make matters worse, the family tradition is to never get divorced, hence the title "A Tradition of Pride". The hero of the tale, Rans, is the new manager of the ranch. And he's a REAL man, with masculine virility and arrogance in abundance! Her haughtiness, and his arrogance, spark off severe hostilities between them. Despite her beauty, Rans is not impressed by what her perceives to be the cold-as-ice Lara. In fact, he takes it as a personal challenge to break through her marble facade. Needless to say, the chemistry between them is electric. There are a few aggressive confrontations that are very sexy, particularly the one in the stables! As can be expected when it comes to Janet Dailey, this is a well-resolved story, so it all works out in the end. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
