Product Description

Review

"Linda Hutcheon's A Theory of Adaptation is abundantly welcome, especially in its explicit aim to theorise a field that has for too long been a refuge for those averse to theoretical self-reflection. Hutcheon’s book is genuinely innovative in its structure....A Theory of Adaptation should give the study of adaptation a new lease of intellectual life..." --Global Media Journal

Product Description

Renowned literary scholar Linda Hutcheon explores the ubiquity of adaptations in all their various media incarnations and challenges their constant critical denigration. Adaptation, Hutcheon argues, has always been a central mode of the story-telling imagination and deserves to be studied in all its breadth and range as both a process (of creation and reception) and a product unto its own.

Persuasive and illuminating, A Theory of Adaptation is a bold rethinking of how adaptation works across all media and genres that may put an end to the age-old question of whether the book was better than the movie, or the opera, or the theme park.

Adapt and Survive 20 Dec 2009
Format:Paperback
Hutcheon's 'A Theory of Adaptation' is just about the most useful guide to the adaptation process and the cultural significance of the retelling and re-imagining of stories. Hutcheon explores her subject with the kind of clarity and flair some other literary theorists would do well to emulate.

A New Age of Adaptation 29 April 2009
By J. Sanders - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a great book. Hutcheon examines what adaptation has been reduced to in our society and puts forth a series of arguments to show her reader what Adaptation could be if given the chance. If you're considering writing a adaptation of any kind, you should consult this text for a really good place to start.

Breaks New Ground 20 July 2009
By T C - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Linda Hutcheon boldly asks: "Are we living in the age of adaptation?" As a cultural practice that cuts across cultures and times, adaptation should, as the wonderful book teaches us, be understood not simply in relation to the "original" but as an art form itself. It's time to go beyond novels and films when thinking about adaptations.
