Product Description

Product Description

Carol Thatcher has one of the most famous surnames in the world.

The daughter of former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher, Carol is a national treasure with a unique story to tell. Her remarkable mixture of bravery, honesty and humour won her a place in the nation's hearts on ITV's I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here...! when millions of viewers voted her the second 'Queen of the Jungle'.

In this candid memoir, she tells us about what it was like to grow up as the 'Milk Snatcher's' daughter, sister of the infamous Mark, living a life she describes as a 'swim-on part in the goldfish bowl'.

Her tales of behind-the-scenes at Number 10, her extraordinary travels, and dinners with world leaders, are both rivetingly funny and refreshingly revealing.

About the Author

Carol Thatcher is the daughter of the late Sir Denis Thatcher and Baroness Thatcher, the former Prime Minister. She is a journalist, writer and broadcaster - and winner of 2005's I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!

I found this book hard to put down. Carol Thatcher comes across as a genuine woman with a great sense of perspective and a lively sense of humour.

By Ian Millard TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
To call this book "slight" would be kind. I aquaplaned through it inn an hour or so while waiting for someone. It is certainly no autobiography and leaves out even those parts of the more personal background of the authoress which have been newspaper staples for decades. There is really no talk of politics in the sense of policy at all, just personal anecdotes from Mrs Thatcher's time in power and few even of those stories.

Carol Thatcher comes across as rather gushing, quite pleasant, with (perhaps) a nervous or anxious aspect to the character, too. She obviously likes food and drink and dwells here and there on some of the wine-lists and menus of some state banquets which she attended.

I did find some aspects to her story interesting in a way: odd that her (far more affluent) parents owned the same weird-design car (Ford Anglia) as mine circa 1959-1960 (a cheap auto...though it seems but one of their vehicles)....and I liked the story of how her otherwise sophisticated friends would ask her whether she had a mortgage or even whether she paid tax etc! They thought she might somehow be exempted, as in banana republics (and I like the way she uses terms like that all but banned in the crazy "politically correct" self-censoring Britain of today.

Some people might like the book, but I have to say that it is not for me.
