Some of Teresa's big hits are here (Jilted, A tear fell, A sweet old-fashioned girl, You send me) but others (Ricochet, Till I waltz again with you) are missing, while the version of Music music music presented here is a re-recording; the original can be found on another compilation, The original sound of Miss Music music music, on the same label So this is not a substitute for a greatest hits compilation, but its appeal lies in all the rarities to be found, many of which have never previously appeared on CD. The real disappointment, if there is one, is that the booklet notes could have been written for any compilation of Teresa's music, except for the occasional mention of hits included here. Given the nature of the compilation, it would have been more useful to have comments about the tracks actually selected for inclusion than a generic biography. Still, it's the music that really counts and that is excellent.

Critics of Teresa's music point to the novelty songs, but these were a feature of the period and all the big stars including Guy Mitchell and Doris Day recorded their share of such songs. One such song is Teresa's duet with Don Cornell, You'll never get away. It isn't the finest record that Teresa - or Don - ever made, but it's OK and it earned its inclusion by making the top 20 in America when originally released. Going back to more conventional material, Teresa recorded many great songs and plenty of them are to be found here.

Among the tracks are four Christmas songs, grouped together halfway though the first CD. Ideally, these tracks should have been put at the end of the CD, so that they would be easy to ignore in summertime by the simple use of the STOP button, but it seems that the compiler was determined to put the tracks in chronological order.

This is a fantastic double set of Teresa from Jasmine. It includes the remaining London Records tracks that haven't appeared on CD yet. It covers the period 1951-1957 and includes many of Teresa's samller U.S. hits plus great performances. Her wide range of vocal talent is shown here
from the bold and brassy Teresa we all know and love to the sweet voiced
charm of 'Goodbye John'. Also included in it's entireity is her much sought after first Coral album as such titled 'Music Music Music'. There are many standouts from that album which included her British hit 'Nora
Malone' and much sought after items such as 'When I Leave The World Behind'

This is the first 2 CD set of Teresa since her demise last year. On this
set alone you have 62 tracks and there are many more in the vaults. Let's
hope this is the first of many CD's to come when we can listen to that marvellous voice digitally re-mastered.

A must for anyone who enjoys good 'Pop' music. Perhaps the title of the
set says it all 'A Sweet Old Fashioned Girl'

There are very few Teresa Brewer CDs available and even fewer of any quality to really shout about, so when I, casually browsing Amazon, saw this item, 'A Sweet Old Fashioned Girl', and its follow-up volume, 'Miss Versatility', both by Jasmine, I leapt upon them like a ravening wolf! I suggest anybody reading this review does the same! Both are bargains at their current prices, and, frankly, if they were priced at £25.00 each I would have just as happily forked out the necessary. They really are worth every penny!

Dealing with the item for sale here,'A Sweet Old Fashioned Girl', you get over 60 songs on 2 discs, all in smooth, clear, and really vibrant sound. The quality of the song quantity is just as good, having been sympathetically compiled to include many rare and coveted songs, some of her hits, novelties, Christmas excitement - AND, her first album for Coral, 'Music! Music! Music!' Throughout it all, she displays a versatility of vocals and style that is comparable to hardly any other singer. And the presentation of it all is lovely - two beautiful pictures of Miss Brewer front and back, clear track-listing, and all the recording dates and writers of the songs are listed in the six-page booklet. There are no liner notes as such, but there is a short biography of Miss Brewer included. The discs themselves sport two different and very nice pictures of the artist.

What more is there to say? Just that I thoroughly recommend this item AND its companion AND Jasmine's third Teresa Brewer CD, 'The Original Sound of Miss Music! Music! Music!', which showcases the artist during her early stages, to form the nucleus of a Brewer collection - and hopefully soon add to it with a fourth Jasmine release!
