“When I think of Soundgarden, I think of a sound, I think of one entity, one organic thing,” says singer and guitarist Chris Cornell, “but I guess that the exciting part is that it’s always been really varied.”

Hailed as grunge innovators, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a generation. In the 80s and 90s, the ... Read more in Amazon's Soundgarden Store

Product Description

Product Description

Ten years after crawling from the muck and mire of the Seattle grunge scene, Soundgarden's farewell compilation hits all the high points of an impressive career. Nirvana may have taken grunge public, but Soundgarden got there first. Starting with the grinding of SCREAMING LIFE's "Nothing To Say," A-SIDES demonstrates the band's evolution from muscular musical brutes to a unit whose might was tailored by an innovative use of hooks and melodicism.

4.0 out of 5 stars All the best bits on one disk!! 20 Nov 2003
Format:Audio CD
Most people know that grunge in the uk is not the most popular type of rock music around, but if you are going to listen to anyone it should be Nirvana or Soundgarden.
On here you get the Best bits of a long career fronted by Chris Cornell (now of supergroup Audioslave.
All the tracks a apart from tracks 1-3 are of very high quality, From the hard Grumble of "jesus christ pose" to the deep and depressing "fell on black days" other highlights include "black hole sun","pretty noose","the day i tried to live" all anthems.
Soundgarden might not be for blink 182,linkin park lovers, but anyone who likes rock music with a hard and meaningful edge should check this out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great... but still get the albums 8 Aug 2005
By C. Rees
Format:Audio CD
This is an awesome collection, really collecting together most of the best of Soundgarden. Fell on Black Days is seriously underrated, and is possibly the best song they've done, but what happened to Like Suicide? Essential! Fantastic apart from that omission, but really worth getting if you want a sample of Soundgarden. Go on, you know you want it...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good rock is good rock. 7 Oct 2010
By R. Nunn
Format:Audio CD
As a new comer to Soundgarden, getting the greatest hits made sense. I'd heard only a few tracks before purchase, but a lot of praise. Was not dissapointed!

Catchy grunge, obvious talent, great voice, good style variation between songs, some cheesy lyrics (e.g. Outshined). 17 tracks too.

Big point I must make: Their SuperUnknown album is better than this greatest hits. Buy that instead (or as well). It is superb in my opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for a Casual Fan 19 Nov 2008
Format:Audio CD
I'm not a huge Soundgarden fan, yet, but I own this, Badmotorfinger and Superunknown. This compilation is great for those that have not heard much Soundgarden, and possibly the best grunge related compilation for your money.
Songs like Jesus Christ Pose and Outshined have a heavy crunch unique to Soundgarden while Blow Up the Outside World and Pretty Noose are surprisingly melodic and give as show us a different side to the band. The Highlights for me though are Loud Love and Nothing to Say. These earlier cuts have a rawer feel and are enough for me to look into Soundgarden's earlier albums. The riff to Loud Love is fantastic and Nothing to Say is a landmark grunge song.
All in all, great riffs, great vocals and for a fiver, this is a great place to start.

4.0 out of 5 stars Forget Audioslave... this is rock 27 Nov 2006
By Ed
Format:Audio CD
No offense to audioslave fans out there, but this is an awesome starting point if you're looking to get into Cornell's better work.

Kicking off with the brooding "Nothing To Say" (check out that heavy-as-sin bass line), the first few tracks showcase the 'Garden's earlier efforts, but it's only when you get to the "Badmotorfinger" era and onward that the full force of Soundgarden hits you (I'm going to overlook "Black Hole Sun"), from the brutal "Jesus Christ Pose" and "Outshined" to the (comparatively) light "Day I Tried To Live", Fell On Black Days" and Burden In My Hand".

This is an awesome starting point for getting into Soundgarden and will lure you into buying more of their back catalogue (do it, it's money well spent).

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 13 July 2004
Format:Audio CD
I think now that Chris Cornell is out and about with Audioslave, people wight be looking to get an idea of how he performed with soundgarden.
While they wern't about for long, they were pretty influential. This is an awesome album and really is their best works. My favourite songs on the album are pretty noose, burden in my hand and blow up the outside world.
Essential purchase
