Book Description

23 Mar 2000
Have you ever wondered where Naomi Campbell buys her knickers in Paris? Where Madonna buys her perfume? Where do smart Parisians on moderate budgets shop? And how do you find the nearest Stephane Kelian shoe shop to your hotel? All the answers and more are contained in this guide to fashion in Paris, which is dealt with by area rather than subject. The book covers all the main shopping "quartiers" (with accompanying maps) and gives a mass of general tips, from opening times to local cafes to shopping etiquette. Written in anecdotal style, with quotes from celebrities, shop-owners and designers throughout, this book caters for women, men and all budgets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heaven 17 Mar 2000

Format:Paperback
This book is utter bliss: like being led through the best bits of Paris by your new and very sussed best friend. Each entry is written in chatty, but incredibly well-informed style: if the shop assistants are rude but the clothes are worth it, Alicia Drake tells you so. As well as clothing - and she's terrific on hundreds of small boutiques you'd never hear of unless you actually lived in Paris - she's brilliant on parfumeries, obscure interiors shops, beauty salons etc. Alicia Drake writes about shopping in Paris in the way a really good food writer writes about restaurants: you just start drooling and wishing you were there right now. All this, plus she tells you where to go for lunch and who does the best leg wax. Essential. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars essential 27 Sep 2000

My brother-in-law bought me this as a joke Christmas present the day before we left for a long weekend in Paris. On the Eurostar coming back he said, I'm writing that off as a lost weekend. As for me, I wouldn't set foot in Paris without it. Particularly see the section on the rue de la cherche-midi

Excellently illustrated by the hipper-than-now fashion illustrator Jason Brooks (of Pushca flyer and HedKandi record sleeve fame), this little bible is the must-have accessory to have on one's arm in Paris. Not only does it make sure you do not miss any of the boutiques that one should treat oneself in, (not forgetting that faithful, the Little Black American Express Card, of course!), it also gives you a number of über-cool addresses that are essential.... such as the nearest place for a quick 'croissant et café crème' restbite! Despite making it's first appearance back in Autumn/Winter 2000, this like the Yves Saint Laurent smoking suit, it is as an eternal classic.... Pack your Louis Vuitton weekend bag now!!
