It is surely no coincidence that, just as I enjoy the smoky earthiness of a single malt from Islay, I enjoy reading the haiku of Colin Stewart Jones. In A Seal Snorts Out The Moon the poet escorts us through a cycle of seasons evoking for us snippets and perceptions along the way. Jones' humour, his moments of childlike wonder and his natural acknowledgement of basic human experiences such as excretion, reproduction and death reveal a gentle and unpretentious acceptance and celebration of the human journey in all its aspects.
