Product Description

Ealing comedy directed by Charles Frend. Twm and Dai Jones (Meredith Edwards and Donald Houston), two brothers from a small mining village in Wales, win a coal-cutting competition and set off for London to claim their prize. There, the rural innocents are supposed to be escorted by newspaper reporter Mr Whimple (Alex Guinness), but they fail to make the rendezvous and instead get into various scrapes including a long pub crawl that ends up in a pawn shop and being taken for a ride by a pretty con woman, Jo (Moira Lister).

Product Description

United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Black & White, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Brothers Dai and Twn are a pair of country boys from Wales who win a trip to London to see a publicized football match between the Welsh and English teams. Upon arriving in the big city, however, the two are separated and must find one another in time for the match. Unfortunately, both are beset by the temptations of the city--women, booze, and the promise of fame. A RUN FOR YOUR MONEY uses the commonplace dichotomy between the innocence of the country and the corruption of the city in Ealing's droll comic tradition. 4.0 out of 5 stars A bit of Wales in Postwar London 3 Sep 2009
Format:DVD
Memories ah memories, this Ealing comedy will bring it all back for people of a certain age (me included). The film concerns two Welsh coal miners who win a competition and have to go to London and collect their prize, does it go smooth, does it heck. The film was made in 1949 when Britain was at it's lowest ebb a lot of it was shot on the streets of London at that time,it makes good social history.
This fast paced comedy is a tribute to Ealing Studio's,and is well worth purchasing.

My favourite Ealing film, it does "stereotype" us welsh people a little but I find it very funny

Very enjoyable.
Hadnt seen this one before, but enjoyed every minuite.
Two good old welsh lads on a jaunt to london.
Look out for a young Hugh Griffith (Titfield Thunderbolt-Dan Taylor)who is constantly cuddling his precious harp.
Great scenes of late 1940s London.
If you like Ealings Humour you should like this.
Look out for the chase scene when the spiv stops outside the cinema. (The film poster is Passport to Pimlico)

4.0 out of 5 stars Britain as it was 3 Mar 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Loved this film, other reviewers had told me what to expect and I wasn't disappointed. There is some stereotyping of Welsh people but only in that endearing and affectionate way that "we" did things in the immediate post war years and through the 50's, 60's and 70's before the dead hand of PC killed all humour. If you want an endearing romp through post war London this film is one that will fulfill that need.

English stereotype of valleys boyos. A fore runner of "Grand Slam" really. Gentle fun well played. A bit long in the tooth now but worth a look.

Believe it be fine, but this was ordered on behalf of another person, who doesn't have internet access and couldn't buy it on-line themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure nostalgia 14 Sep 2011

A great old film with both naivete and the darker side of life thrown together in this farce, also some views of London as it was.
