Book Description

29 May 2013
A chance encounter… a murder in the Piazza Signoria … an impulsive kiss…and Lucy Honeychurch’s world is forever changed. Torn between settling for a life of acceptable convention or the calling of her true passion, Lucy epitomizes the struggle for individuality and the power and passion of love. A Room with a View is certainly E.M Forster’s most romantic novel, though it also questions the repressed sexuality and closed conventions of the Edwardian society. Set in Italy and England, Forster pivots the easy flowing passion of the Italian culture against the constrictions of late nineteenth century English society and has created a novel of great depth, charm and enchantment that has endured for over a century.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you believe love can liberate 9 May 2014
By Pete Bogg - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Though Forster's novel makes use both of characteristic British social reserve as well as Victorian manners and attitudes regarding love and proper behavior of young men and women, it is less a social commentary than his "Howard's End" yet is also a love story. At its core it seems to show the wisdom of trusting your heart and the need to have the courage to follow where it leads you. Highly recommended (and not just as summer reading).

1.0 out of 5 stars Required for book club, didn't read because copy was so defaced and worn out. 12 May 2014
By Pat Jones - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
No comment on story itself, which I'm sure I read long ago but don't remember. Threw out the copy sent to me because of it's unacceptable condition, and maybe someday I'll buy a better copy, but no hurry. Many other books higher priority.
