Format:Paperback
Roland Barthes's work probably remains one of the most fascinating of the 20th century. Barthes used his amazing culture and insightful mind to address major literary, semiological, philosophical and social issues. The result, from a Lover's Discourse to Mythologies is usually outstanding and earned him a chair in linguistics at the famous 'College de France'. All in all, Sontag's choice of extracts is rather wise and gives the reader a good overview of Barthes's work. While it is a good starting point for those readers who may not know which part of the author's versatile work might be the most interesting, there is little doubt that most will feel like exploring further Barthes's work after this first contact.
