I read this book every couple of months and each time find something else of relevance or a detail possibly not noted previously which speaks directly into situations I am living through. The essence of the novel is to my mind the triumph of faith over fear, hope over despondency, truth over lies. The characters are engaging and detecting the interlinking with the previous Starbridge novels is enjoyable. Getting inside the head of each of the main characters gives a multi-faceted perspective on the situations covered within the novel, showing all too clearly that everyone has their perspective, and no-one bar God can really know the true motivation behind peoples' behaviour. The reader can't help but identify with the characters as they endure and struggle to find their way through the difficulties and challenges they encounter - as the chances are, we've all been somewhere similar at some time.
