The Large family are so typical of most families, everyone can relate to the characters and their everyday exploits. My two children love sharing bedtime stories about them, despite being 8 and 11 now! This story is fun and pictures are great too. If you want a more serious reason for buying it, this story gives you a light-hearted lead-in to chatting about topics such as diet, exercise and sharing and how you as a family deal with them.

A beautifully illustrated book describing the (fruitless) efforts of a mother elephant trying to get the "Five Minutes' Peace" of the title. My one-year-old is mildly amused by it -- I think it's great. As his sense of humo(u)r develops, I hope he'll "get it" -- and I'll get five minutes' peace myself.

I received this as a gift for my 4 year old and from the first line felt very uncomfortable reading it. It's shocking that in this day and age a children's illustrator/writer is making a topic out of weight issues, worrying about being fat, feeling guilty about eating cake and then concluding that it's better jut to be big and sit on the sofa. I'm all for educating kids on being healthy but this should be done through their parents and not by making them feel guilty via kids books. It's bad enough that they question duh matters as teens via magazines than when thir 4! Shame as I LOVE Jill Murphys Peace at Last but this book shows terrible misjudgement.

Dieting is funny in the eyes of children.
I liked the bit when they ate the cake.-Michaela, Naomi and Stephanie. I liked it when the baby says "wibbly Wobbly"- Veronica, Kate, Emily, Christian, and Lucy.
