This album sums up for me why Level 42 were so massive in the 1980s. They have always been a band that came across better in concert than on recorded albums. The musicianship on this album is awesome, particularly on Foundation and Empire and Kansas City Milkman, which are epics, especially live like this. The tracks may be unfamiliar to those who think only of Lessons In Love and Something About You as the sound of Level 42, but they are what made the band build up such a huge following in the clubs in the early 80s. I first heard this album all the way through and its momentum and atmosphere carries you along. If Level 42 have suffered adverse reviews in recent years with the 'fluffy dice' image, I defy anyone not to appreciate the skill and composition of this album. Truly masterful.

Just an absolute barmstormer form Thunderthumbs and the guys. Foundation and Empire will blow you away. One of the very best bands ever, and live just unstoppable.Go buy this if you love the slap bass, driving funk of the Level 42 you commercially know. You won't believe your ears and it's just a showpiece from one of the leading lights of the early Brit-funk movement, along with Incognito.
Superb!

Big thumbs-up 30 Sep 2006
Format:Audio CD
Sorry for the pun.

Level 42 have done some cracking stuff over the years. They've also done some beautifully-produced and brilliantly-played dross. This album offers none of that. It show-cases a band at their peak, delivering extraordinarily tight, funky tunes. No dross, no filler, no fluffy dice.

If you have to have just one album by this band, go the extra mile and get this, rather than "Running In The Family" or somesuch.
