Product Description

Review

"No family in the English-speaking world should be without this stupendous work" (Andrew Roberts)

"At a time when too little history is taught in schools and dubious history presented on TV, Rebecca Fraser has blown a tremendous blast of traditional British history... All will learn from it" (Paul Johnson)

"A reference book that will see every history student through school and university" (Lucy Moore New Statesman)

"An elegantly written, impressively well-informed single-volume history of how England was governed during the past 2000 years. It should be prescribed reading for all politicians" (John Adamson Sunday Telegraph)

"Fraser has put grown-up history back on the national agenda" (Andrew Lycett Sunday Times)

Book Description

A dazzling one-volume history of Britain, both narrative and anecdotal.

Many history books just turn you off with too many names ,dates and too much minor detail. This volume reads like the great adventure that English history has been. Excellent on fact but thoroughly readable and enjoyable, I refer to it time and time again. Buy it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining romp through our history. I was reminded what a wonderful story it is. One cannot understand the present without an appreciation of the past. This is a lovely general history which keeps one's attention. My only complaint is the last twenty pages. She is very generous about the Blair government; history will be far less indulgent.

I am nine years old, and I'm really enjoying this book. I haven't finished it yet, but I certainly want to. It has taught me lots of things that I didn't know beforehand. For instance, I didn't know that Henry II owned nearly all of France! I think this book is for everyone who is interested in learning more about Britain's past.

Format: Paperback
This appears to be yet another history of the royal families and politicians of Britain, being superficial, rushed, and there seems to be a lot of copied material. One wonders what % plagiarism it would be on turnitin? The stilted sentence structure and poor grammar adds to the overall disjointed feeling of a cut and paste pastiche. An insult to authors who have written original, well researched books on the history of British non aristocrats.
