One of the biggest selling female artists ever, Celine Dion's global appeal may seem incomprehensible to some but for those who appreciate her incredible voice and epic productions she has become a legend in her own lifetime. Dion's latest English language album A New Day Has Come is to a certain extent a very apt title since many of the 17 songs are filled with new ideas (well, new to Celine) and a sound more in keeping with the current trends. Take "Rain, Tax" for example, if it weren't for the theatrical vocal it could be mistaken for a rising pop/R&B number with a heavy emphasis on the stuttering rhythm and deep bass rather than sweet strings and weighty "power-ballad drums". Another experiment is the Cher-esque (minus vo-coder) "Sorry For Love" complete with pumping rhythm section and house pianos which is still very much Celine but not likely to ravage any dance floors across the land. But still, A New Day Has Come is still very much traditional vocal led pop-rock, heavy on the ballads, like the title track and lead single, with silky orchestration and enormous sounding drums complementing the theatrical presence of her voice in a style modern day easy listeners like Westlife will never match. --Georgina Collins

I have always thought that Celine Dion's only appeal is to mothers such as mine, or to people who don't like pop, dance, r'n'b, or anything else worth listening to. Sure, I liked a few of her songs, but never enough to actually go out and buy the album.
When I first heard A New Day Has Come on the radio, I fell in love with it, but imagined that the new album would be like all the rest that my mum owns, patchy. However, on an impulse I decided to go out and get it, for myself! And I'm glad I did. I'm not going to rave about her voice or anything, but I have to say that she does sound good on these new updated songs. In fact, the whole CD is updated, as is probably her appeal, which has certainly grown to include me!
So what is in this album to make me change my mind? The simple answer is, new, great songs, such as Right in front of you, Sorry for love, Goodbye, and my especial favourite, When the wrong one loves you right.
One bad thing that I have to say about this album, however, is that it goes on for too long. 17 tracks is getting on for a bit much by the end of the CD, and although I do like each song, I end up putting it on program. The program does vary each time though, which is another good thing about Celine's album, the songs are all different to each other, and ther is a different one for each varying mood that you find yourself in.

Celine's done it again, another class album. This time, she's blended great ballads such as her faveourite, Have You Ever Been in Love. Shania Twain's producer husband, Mutt Lange, wrote the track, Goodbye's (The Saddest Word) and what a track. A definate single, i think. Upbeat songs include Right in Front of You, Ten Days, A New Day Has Come and probably her next single, I'm Alive ( from the writers of Thats The Way It Is.
Celine also includes dancy songs, (yes you heard correctly) as in When The Wrong One Loves You Right, Super Love (brilliant) and a Kylie/Steps type song, Sorry For Love. There is even an R&B type song, Rain Tax (It's Inevitable).
All that and two classics, Nature Boy (Nat King Cole) and At Last (Etta James).
The album has songs TO SUIT EVERYONE'S MUSIC TASTE, so buy it now, it really is excellent. Just look at the album charts, number one in its first two weeks, really does reflect that position. It should also add a few more million to her 150 million albums already sold!

Celine Dion's new album, A new day has come, shows that she has not lost her touch when it comes to singing good songs. This time around she has changed her sound and brought in new producers and songwriters which have matured her sound as she has. One of the biggest surprises is that this time there are more uptempo feel good songs and less of the glass shattering ballards that had become her trademark and the album is all the better for it. I'm Alive, Sorry for Love, When the Wrong one loves you right provide her with some feelgood material whilst Have You Ever Been In Love and The Greatest Reward are more gentle ballards. For the trademark power ballards there are none more finer than I surrender and Goodbye although the first one is a little bit over the top. For surprises on this album look no further than 10 days which could almost be an indie track remeniscent of Eagle Eye Cherry. The covers are limited to two standards Nature Boy and At Last, the latter being a lush cover of the song made famous by Etta James. This album also has produced a couple of urban songs which work very well, Rain Tax and Superlove could give some of the urban pop acts a run for their money. This CD is a slight change of pace for Celine but it works, it is a little overlong but then it's better to have too many than too little. I gave this album 5 because at least 98 percent of the tracks on here could be possible single releases and she ably proves that she still deserves to be among some of pops finest acts.

One of the finest cd's
This is one of the finest CDs from Celine Dion. At some point I wish I had a super-audio player, since this CD is also available as an SACD.
