5.0 out of 5 stars Wow Melosa! Well worth that long wait!, 2 Oct 2011

Wow! Anyone who's been in a live crowd whipped up Melosa's high-powered, driving energy and irresistible, even-compulsive dancibility might justifiably wonder if that would be diluted when transferred to their first full album.

Fear not. I defy anyone to put this on, turn the volume up, stand to attention, and salute straight-faced for more than a couple of bars before just going crazy wild!

That's probably a lot to do with their insistence that the studio should record them 'live', as the whole 10-piece band performing and interacting as they do so infectiously on stage.

It also reflects the simple fact that they've been together long enough now to have a sufficiently strong, confidently distinctive musical personality, that knows exactly what their unique sound is about and where it's going, to not have been tempted by studio processing.

Don't buy this if all you want is a `decor media' sound. It delivers more than pulsating limbs; Melosa has a message ("We want change, we know who to blame!") and it's good to be able to hear their every word even when voices and lyrics are overlain.

Love that richness too! There are enough nuances, flavours and compliments in these eleven pieces to reward repeated listening. Get that Spanish rap and full-on Latin brass!

Technically a superb, well balanced, crystal clear recording of what is a complex, big 3D musical structure where texture, ambiance and placement play such an important part - the product of that excellent studio secreted somewhere away in the middle of a Devon field - even the Ruby-Red cows have become adept synchronized tail-waving ska prancers.

But above all Melosa's is a sound that'll make you feel just great...and wanting much more from them!

At a ridiculously low price with a quarter of that going to important charities I bet it'll be only sad, standing-to-attention zombies who won't buy this album to discover Melosa for themselves, and then go seek out a massive dose of them live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do your ears and feet a favour, 23 Oct 2011
This review is from: A New Chapter (MP3 Download)
When an album relentlessly kicks you up your groovin arse in such a brazen way it's worthy of a note:
Lyrics with an unashamed positivity, chiming what you would hope was common sense for all, matched by a backing that demonstrates a skilful blend of influences (paying each great tribute) providing a simple and scintilating groove.
We all need this album in our lives - I challenge everyone to put it on in the kitchen and not afford themselves a cheeky groove/sous shimmy.

In short, an impeccable grasp of 'the groove'
