Product Description

Product Description

A Moving Sound is a unique group that blends traditional Taiwanese music with elements of Western music, presenting the result with a mixture of song, dance and subtle dramatization. They will be appearing on the BBC Radio 3 stage at Womad in July 2012. Drawing on the rich culture of Taiwan, a beautiful island off the coast of China where ancient Chinese traditions flourish as nowhere else, the sound of AMS captures the way these ancient traditions jostle with the open, sophisticated, and avant-garde styles that have been welcomed in Taiwan in the two decades that have passed since the end of martial law. AMS has fashioned an exquisite, accessible sound that speaks eloquently of its unique country of origin, while at the same time speaking in a universal language to listeners around the world. In the decade since AMS was formed in Taipei by singer/dancer Mia Hsieh and American multi-instrumentalist Scott Prairie the group has played many major tour dates in Europe and have been featured on BBC Radio 3's World Routes. Personnel: Hua-Zhou Hsieh (guitar, zhong ruan), Mia Hsieh (vocals), Scott Prairie (vocals, bass guitar, zhong ruan), Tang-Hsuan Lo (erhu), Zheng-Jun Wu (erhu, percussion)

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique and appealing sound 17 Aug 2012

A Moving Sound is a terrific album, fusing traditional Taiwanese music with Western elements. I prefer traditional Asian music to more modern pop (modern pop seems to sound more and more similar all over the globe), and thus A Moving Sound's mix is perfect for me. This cd is on the Motema label, which has a great artist roster focused on very cool musicians from jazz and other genre's. Let's hope A Moving Sound releases more cd's soon.
