Product Description

From rural rags to brief riches and back to ruin, this is a moving saga of hard work, bad luck and finally hope for a family’s future.

Gloria Sullivan can’t quite believe where she has ended up.

Growing up with no money worries, she fell head over heels in love with the handsome, hardworking Irishman employed by her father. They were the golden couple - until the Wall Street crash, when everything was lost. Finally she agreed to start again in London with husband Joe and their small son.

World War Two was raging, and Joe laboured on the docks by day and fighting fires by night. He was a hero - but one dreadful fire left him terribly injured. Once more Gloria resolved to leave everything behind and to take Joe home to his family farm in Ireland, his only hope of recovery.

Gloria now dutifully nurses her husband, but she can’t settle in the countryside. Then a nearby American base begins recruiting civilians. Gloria tells everyone it’s her chance to do her bit - but will she be tempted to do much more?

More About the Author

Hi, my 18th novel 'A Girl Can Dream' was published by Harper Collins and released on 22nd May 2014 and the first of my back list titles 'A Strong Hand to Hold' on 3rd July 2014. I began writing in 1995 when I was no longer able to teach, because writing was something I'd always longed to do. So I wrote 4 books for children, numerous short stories and a thriller before I found my niche as a saga writer and my first book, "A Little Learning" was accepted in 1997 by Headline Publishing. In 2001 I changed publishers and "Walking Back to Happiness" was published by Harper Collins and since then I have been producing a book for them every year.Details of all my books are on my web site and I am also on Facebook and Twitter. I'd love you to get in touch.

First time reader of Anne Bennett. A very discriptive book enabling vivid pictures to be formed in the 'minds eye'. Very hard to put this book down but not wanting to reach the final chapter.

I liked they book as although I have read the others in this series, you don't need to as it is a story in its own right.
The end could of been left slightly better. But overall it was a good read.

Unexpected twists and turns throughout the family's story. Very enjoyable and once more a lovely happy ending. Is this the last family member I wonder. Ann Bennett continues to write a good , gripping story. Brilliant.
Once more a few printing errors which did confuse at times.
