I've listened to this album for about 9months and I've realised it is one of those go to albums when you want total security and beauty. I some times find myself listing to music which is hard and not relaxing, verging on the irritating and then it's refreshing to return to solidity and class. Not smooth jazz as there is always something refreshing to find.

This is Scofield and his jazz quartet comprising of keyboardist Larry Goldings, bassist Scott Colley and drummer Brian Blade.

As the title suggests this album is a laid back affair performed with great musicality, subtlety and skill. The band enhance and underscore the wonderful jazz/blues feel of this album with excellent contributions from those involved.

No up tempo numbers but Sco likes to surprise us now and then. The album put me in mind of Miles classic 'Kind of Blue' with it's subtleties, colouring and shading. Sco's playing is sensitive despite his angular style and listeners will find a lot to discover here on repeatable listenings.
The Guardian Jazz critic John Fordham innacurately argues this album veers towards the smooth jazz side of things. Sco can rip it up better than the best of them - but this album is time out from that and a move towards the subtleties and sensitivity we know he is capable of. It's a good, interesting, relaxing listen but it certainly isn't smooth jazz. That's a whole different garbage pale to this.

I would recommend this to anyone - pity that the case was broken when it arrived but not surprising as it wasn't well wrapped

I am a huge fan of Scofield in all his various incarnations, and enjoyed seeing him live in Leeds in the late '90s. One of my favourite albums is Beyond the Missouri Sky by Metheny and Haden - it is calmness personified - and I wanted something with a similar feel. This album does exactly that: exquisitely tasteful playing and arrangements, the space is as wonderful as the music. Highly recommended.

Having been introduced to some of John's more surreal music, it was a suprise to hear this album which demonstrates a totally different style. Music to create dreams whilst eating rich chocolate fudge cake in the late hours.
