I met Paul Henke in a bookshop in Darlington. I was looking for a new series of books I could get into and initially bought Debacle, Mayhem and Chaos from his Nick Hunter - TIFAT series. If you like Tom Clancy then you'll enjoy this series that follows the exploits of a multinational team set up to fight global terrorism.
However, during what was a very interesting conversation with him about his career in the Navy and his writing, he told me about the Tears series of books, charting the rise of the Griffiths family from humble beginnings in a mining community in Wales to becoming a powerful family involved in some of the pivotal moments in history. It was apparent that this series is one he's particularly proud of.
Luckily I got the chance to meet him again at another book signing, and having read and thoroughly enjoyed the TIFAT novels, bough the all the Tears novels and was hooked immediately, reading them all back to back.
This series has an epic feel, given the journey across the world and the events depicted. The characters and the style of writing draw you in and you feel yourself rooting for them in everything they do.
There are nice little touches in both the Tears and TIFAT series with characters introduced that link them together.
I've recently bought these for the Kindle and am re-reading them all again.
I highly recommend all Paul Henke's books. Give them a chance and I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.
