More About the Author

Born to an Air Force family at an Army hospital, Melissa has always been a little bit screwy. She was further warped by her years of watching Monty Python and her strange family. Her love of romance novels developed after accidentally picking up a Linda Howard book. From then on, she was hooked. She read close to 300 novels in one year and decided romance was her true calling instead of the literary short stories and suspense stories she had been writing. After many attempts, she realized that romantic comedy, or at least romance with a comedic edge, was where she was destined to be.

Influences in her writing come from Nora Roberts, Jenny Crusie, Susan Andersen, Amanda Quick, Jayne Anne Krentz, Julia Quinn, Christina Dodd, and Lori Foster. Since her first release in 2004, Melissa has written close to thirty short stories, novellas and novels released with seven different publishers in a variety of genres and time periods. Those releases included a 2005 Eppie Finalist, Two Capa finalists, and an International ebook best seller in June of 2005.

Since she was a military brat, she vowed never to marry military. Alas, fate always has her way with mortals. Her husband is an Air Force major, and together they have their own military brats, two girls, and an adopted dog-daughter. They live wherever the military sticks them, which, she is sure, will always involve heat and bugs only seen on the Animal Discovery Channel. In her spare time, she reads, complains about bugs, travels, cooks, reads some more, watches her DVD collections of Arrested Development and Seinfeld, and tries to convince her family that she truly is a delicate genius. She has yet to achieve her last goal.

She has always believed that romance and humor go hand in hand. Love can conquer all and as Mark Twain said, "Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand." Combining the two, she hopes she gives her readers a thrilling love story, filled with chuckles along the way, and a happily ever after.

A Little Harmless Submission is the story of Detective Romeo Carino and FBI Special Agent Maria Callahan. They are put together to solve the murders that are linked to the BDSM club Rough N' Ready.

Rome is a well known Dom at Rough N' Ready and Maria has extensively researched the BDSM lifestyle but has never participated. This story is about their professional and personal lives crossing paths and discovering the difference between being controlled in one life and controlling in another.

This is an excellent sixth instalment of the much loved Harmless series and as usual it is hard to stop reading. Submission has everything that you would expect from Ms. Schroeder, not only are there a few new characters that have been introduced, the loveable banter between favourite characters is here again and it feels like you're catching up with some old friends.

A Little Harmless Submission by Melissa Schroeder 18 Oct. 2011

Format: Kindle Edition
I am so glad that Melissa Schroeder has decided to continue this series.
A Little Harmless Submission is the 6th book in this series (but can be read as a stand alone)and I really got a kick out of it. Rome Carino is a cop and a Dom working a serial murder investigation. Subs are being raped and killed. Maria Callahan is a FBI agent with a need to prove herself. She plans to use herself as bait to catch the killer. Rome and Maria are combustible. I love how Maria shakes the ice cold Dom. This is a wonderful mystery and love story. Keep them coming Ms. Schroeder
vanilla not spicy 7 April 2014
By J. Davitt - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
It was okay, no more than that. Several editing issues (basic common mistakes like using 'peaked' when it should've been 'piqued', incorrect tenses, a lack of contractions making the dialogue stilted) and a lackluster mystery.

Worst though was how TAME it was. I'm not in the scene but this is not a Dom/sub relationship to me. It's a couple who enjoy mildly (very mild) kinky sex. There was no attempt to explore emotional reasons why one wanted to submit and the other dominate, nothing done to invoke deep intense emotions or take her deep. It was frustrating. The guy basically lost most of his IQ points when he saw her and seemed to decide hey, I'm a Dom, she is my soulmate therefore she is a sub and there was a huge leap there. Plus at one point he said something like, "You're not allowed to have opinions, you're a sub" and my jaw dropped.

And did I flip too many pages and miss the anal sex? He put a butt plug in her and I don't think it ever came out but I guess it did.

Ack. Not a dreadful book but it bothered me by how wishy-washy it was. The BDSM club seemed like somewhere I could've taken my grandmother to it was so polite and vanilla.

I get that every D/s relationship is different but could I ever see her kneeling to him? No. And getting bent out of shape if your woman smiles at someone isn't the sign of a Dom, it's an indication you're immature and controlling.

And deciding to marry someone you've known for a week is not romantic but ridiculous.

Interesting story with BDSM thrown in 8 Nov. 2011

Rome Carino is a detective on the hunt for a predator targeting submissives in local BDSM clubs. Each new kill gets is more violent than the last and it is hurting the Dom in Rome to see these women brutally murdered.

FBI Special Agent Maria Callahan has been hunting the serial killer called The Dom. She knows he is in Hawaii on Rome's turf, but the murders are escalating and now she think she knows why they can't catch him. Maria suggests a plan to go undercover as Rome's sub sending sparks flying between the two dominant personalities. But just because Maria is good at her career doesn't mean she won't melt in bed under Rome's control.

Unfortunately Maria is trying to get out from her famous father's shadow, but is going under cover the way to do it?

Rome instantly knows there is a connection between them. No one has ever responded to him in the way Maria does, but what starts as a game, turns serious very quickly. As the story unfolds, Rome must show her he is the man for her, but also the Dom she needs to let go and become her own woman.

I started this book with such high expectations. BDSM books are high on my list of must read because I love the intricate feelings and emotions that flow from these books. Unfortunately, I just didn't get that from this book. Not to say it was bad, it just didn't deliver on the BDSM aspect as much as I wanted. First the scenes weren't very long or intricate. I enjoyed them, but wasn't left sweating and out of breath from them. Second, there wasn't a lot of BDSM except from a short spanking, being tied up, a little orgasm denial and a little anal play. While they attended a club for the undercover work, they never played there, publicly or privately. Most of the scenes took place at Rome's house with a few at Maria's rental. Third, there wasn't any conflict on either part on whether she was a sub or not. No guilt, which is fine, but no real look into why she might feel this way or difficulty in accepting she is a sub. While Rome is a Dom, he isn't a hard-core Dom which is fine too, but I at times didn't think he was in control the way he should have been.

The suspense was also kind of quick. I realized who the killer was early on, but even when we find out the show down happens very quickly without much fear for anyone's life. I guess, I just never felt much suspense. You get one dead girl a the beginning of the book, but you don't have an invested interest in her. The second killing is someone you know, but you only meet her for a few pages in the book. While I don't like to read about killings, if you are going to put them in there, make me feel the loss, not by graphic details of the kill, but by letting me get to know the person.

While this may seem like a bad review, it isn't. I enjoyed the book, but felt there just wasn't as much depth to it as I would have liked. The characters were fun and witty, the sex scenes were hot if too short, and I want to move to Hawaii.

This is the 6th book in the Harmless series. I haven't read any of the earlier books, but I don't think you need to. Several past book characters are in this one, but there isn't anything that you need to know from earlier books to understand or read this one.

Overall, I liked it, but it isn't one of those books I want to re-read anytime soon. I just completed what I needed from it.

When in Rome.... 23 Oct. 2011

Maria is a FBI agent, an Alpha female, determined to find The DOM, a serial killer, to prove she earned her spot on the FBI, not just given it because her father was a big time FBI agent. Even if it means "pretending" to be a sub to Rome. Rome is a DOM and the HPD Police Officer in charge of the cases involving the serial killer. There is an instant attraction and chemistry between Rome and Maria, it is hot and emotional.

The smexin' is hot and showed a softer side of BDSM, which I enjoyed. Rome was take charge in the bedroom, but he also had a lot of inner dialogue making sure he didn't rush Maria. His inner dialogue also allowed me to "see" his thoughts and the process in his brain of falling in love with her. Maria was strong, yet vulnerable. MS wrote Maria's thoughts and feelings so well, that I could envision how Maria saw Rome so clearly it was like I was watching a movie. I really liked the fact that Rome was a sexy DOM but at the same time so he was so emotionally in tune with Maria that he knew exactly how to work her. I FELL IN LOVE with him in one of the early scenes when Maria was looking down and he told her that looking down was a form of deference and he wasn't into that. I feel like their D/s was a beautiful exchange of power between an Alpha Woman and an Alpha man without delving into the practices of heavy/intense pain. Everything was sensual and oh so sexxxy!! The ending has to be one of the most confrontational declarations of "I Love You" I've read, but I LOVED it and how it all played out

A special treat was getting to see Dee, May, Evan and Micah. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the way Evan, Micah and Rome interact. Dee and May's interactions with each other and Maria had me laughing. Ms. Schroeder also teases with a glimpse of Chris' sexy Navy Seal brother Malachi...oh how swoon worthy he is! There is another DOM I am intrigued by, but I can't mention his name, it could be a spoiler.

A Little Harmless Submission is another winner in the A Little Harmless Series. I have enjoyed everyone of the ALH series, even the short stories that can be found on MS's website. A Little Harmless Submission one is one of my favorites and can be read as a stand alone. I can't wait to see what MS has in store for us addicts next!

A Little Harmless Submission 22 Oct. 2011
By Future Slayer Girl (aka: kitten) - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I am now officially a fan of Melissa Schroeder. This is my first book by her and I am sold. Hook, line, and sinker she got me. First off, from the first chapter I was sold. She developed great character personality right off the gate. I wasn't irritated; I was swept in and ready to follow along with Rome and Maria's story. I knew that this book was BDSM related; I had bought the first book in this series and hadn't read it yet. Well, now I regret that in a huge way. I want the other stories. I want to know how they all met and how it all comes together in this current installment in the Harmless Series.

What a totally fantastic story. As hot as the BDSM sex was I was totally consumed with the internal story. The intrigue with hunting a serial killer, I'm a huge fan of shows like Law and Order SVU and this reminded me so much of a really good episode of that show (If Chris Meloni would get down and dirty with a flogger I would be a happy camper for life). A lot of times with crime novels you get an over kill of the detail, there is so much attention to detail that you get no time to really sort out if the killer is someone close and often times you get bored. In this I wasn't bored at all, if I had to put the book down I was thinking about it, reasoning it out, and trying to find out my own answers.

Inside that incredible plot was a love story. And what a great love story it was. Can I just say that I love when a book makes me want the couple to be together from the first moment they meet? Sometimes I find myself going "Eh, this might not work out." But not even knowing any background from the series at all, I loved each and every character that was passed through in the book. I wanted more, and I enjoyed every part of it. Nothing was left open and untold, the romance was perfect, the sex was hot (mainly because it included bondage), and the couple clicked for me. I was left wanting more and soaking up all the free excerpts that were dropped into the ending of this story.

This book has left me with a warm feeling in my belly for Melissa Schroeder. I will be reading a lot more of her stuff in the future.

I received this ARC for review from the author.

Favorite Quotes

He studied her for a moment, no expression on his face. Then, he placed his hand on the wall next to her head and leaned closer, as he did in the elevator. Gawd, he smelled good. Earthy and sensual, and all wrapped up in a dominant package of a man.

She needed to attract the killer, and she needed their help. She'd have to trust them and Rome to get this bastard. And, if it meat decking herself out like a sex toy waiting to be played with, she would do it.

The simple answer made him smile. It had come out just like a perfect little sub should answer her Dom. A possessiveness he didn't expect slapped him in the face, and he had to fight the urge to claim her. It wacked him upside the head like the club he should be carrying. It was primitive, Neanderthal almost.

"You will let me know the pleasure I give you, but you do not allow yourself that pleasure. It's mine to own and mine to offer."

"You didn't have to do that. Shouldn't have without permission."
She gave him a cocky smile. "I'm sure you can figure out some punishment for me." He laughed, feeling lighter and definitely in a better mood. "After dinner."
