Product Description

Product Description

A Live Lived is best described as counterfactual, and originating from a true story. The Thompson and Bywaters affair, which, during 1922-23, scandalized England. It is based upon true events. Stepping into Edith's unchallenged life, we meet that which could have been. A life authentic, emotionally moving and even humorous.A Live Lived is a family saga centering on the life of Edith Thompson had she been allowed to live. It focuses on her one child, her new husband, her family and profession. We journey with her as the twentieth century unfolds, as she experiences the Second World War, and after into her old age. She begins new relationships, watches her grandchild and her other adopted children grow. Finally, she remarries, moves out of the country, and finds refuge from the publicity she has generated all her life. The publicity of the woman who was nearly hung.

An unlikely story 15 Aug 2006
Format:Paperback
I have always been interested in Edith Thompson, the great injustice that was done to her, and her own part in her downfall. I read Fryn Tennyson Jesse's excellent book, "A Pin To See the Peepshow" and believe that this gave a true indication of what Edith Thompson was.

I found no trace of the woman in this book. The story was not credible. The characters did not live for me. The grammar and spelling were not even good. The cover illustration was of the wrong kind of noose. British hangmen in the 20th century used a rope with a metal eyelet for the rope to run through.

If any of Mrs Thompson's family (those who knew her) are still alive, they will be sorely disappointed by reading this book.

A real gem 28 Aug 2006

Format:Paperback
A unique saga of a life lived. Edith Thompson, a life she could have had.

So realistically written, I loved reading and living every page.

Every emotional and physical detail so beautifully and humanly described as only Molly Cutpurse knows how.

Moly's second novel is her best yet. I have lost count of the times this book made me late for work, late to bed etc. It is a novel aproach to the normal "what if" books that have gone before it.

I can truely recomend it
