Praise for Yorkshire Miscellany

I admire Tom Holman's ingenuity in his choice of lists…Better not give this little book to a native of the county, because you can tell a Yorkshireman - but you can't tell him much (see p.12 Yorkshire sayings.)

Sunday Telegraph

Astound your friends with illuminating facts about Yorkshire with this fascinating book.

Dalesman

The perfect present for anyone who comes from, lives in, or has any interest at all in Yorkshire, its people, culture and customs. Highly entertaining and crammed with amazing Yorkshire facts.

Good for quizzes 22 Dec 2010
Format:Hardcover
A typical "Schott's ..." or "I Never Knew That About ..." type book, written with a lot of affection for its subject. Though a recent book, its boundaries are largely pre-re-drawing in 1974, and so Manchester and Liverpool tend to dominate, and smaller places such as Kirkham receive barely a mention, which is a little unfair. The print is small and spac es occur in between words andsometimes don't occur when they should. Still, there is enough in here to fill several rounds of quizzes in the County's pubs and to generate controversy between teams and questioner, or to provide a few moments of amusement if you have some time to kill.

Format:Hardcover
An interesting compendium of facts about the old county of Lancashire, which at first glance looks looks nicely produced, but is spoiled by being full of typesetting mistakes. I would have given it more stars otherwise.
