5.0 out of 5 stars A Treat to Read 10 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback
Rebecca's second book, her collection of short stories (four of them previously published elsewhere), entitled A Knowing Look and Other Stories, is a treat to read. Rebecca presents us with a varied collection, from the poignant first story A Knowing Look - a beautiful, but heart wrenching story set in Africa (it made me shed a few tears) - to a little sci-fi in A Step Too Far, painting a scary future for the mothers among us, then touching on love and loss, separation and a new beginning in As Fast as You Can. Not giving too much away, further stories touch on a little lightly spiced revenge(that'll teach them!), a birds' eye view of the Human, and his artificial dwellings encroaching on `their' natural habitat, as well as stories touching on the human condition in all its hues, including my favourite On the Corner of Clerk Street. That one sent goose-bumps up my spine as it came to a very clever, unexpected conclusion. It's clever work, this!
An excellent collection of short stories and flash fiction, varied in content and eloquently written - and leaving the reader wanting more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Stunning Collection 2 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I recently had the pleasure of reading this book (in paperback) which is a collection of short stories written by Rebecca Emin. There is a real mix of stories in the book, aimed at the adult audience, some short and punchy, others exploring emotions obviously linked to the authors experiences and thoughts. I wasn't disappointed in this collection, loved every piece of writing and look forward to reading more by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a few short stories.. 8 Dec 2013
By Zoe
Format:Kindle Edition
I've never been a fan of short stories. I've always found that as soon as you're just getting lost into the story it ends. Thinking about it though I imagine it's harder to write a short story as you have to draw the reader in whilst having a product that makes sense in few words. These short stories delivered what I thought was impossible to include in as few words as possible. Gripping and entertaining I'm sure these stories are bound to have you dipping in and out.

This is a vast array of short stories that are different but entrancing in their own way whilst varying in voice and style. The twists to the endings made me want more. I'd definitely recommend these little gems; I just wish they had been longer so that I could have enjoyed them for a greater period of time.

4.0 out of 5 stars my first foray into flash fiction 24 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a first read win and I'm glad to have won it. I've never ventured into flash fiction before and almost certainly wouldn't have picked this up on my own. It's such a small book, not even 50 pages. I would have looked at it as barely an hours entertainment, moved on and missed out. These stories are small emotional packets of prose. Some I liked more than others, but they were all good in their own way. The title story, A Knowing Look and On the Corner of Clerk Street were my favorites, though Perfect Harmony was a close contender. I liked the alternative versions of adultery. If you need a quick read I suggest picking this one up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful collection! 30 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed devouring this collection. I can't pick any one story which was my favourite as I liked them all! What made the reading even more pleasurable was that the stories were a mix of tales. I have this both on my kindle and in paperback! A really wonderful collection that I will be returning to read time again.
